For such a small museum, the art work featured in the Museo Diocesano is actually quite impressive. We were a bit disappointed with Cortona's Etruscan museum, but this little gem was a very pleasant surprise.

Had to try this museum as per recommendation from fellow travelers we met in a restaurant. Most of the display explanations were written in English...probably in the 1950's. Unfriendly receptionist, dinghy, dusty displays. Nothing really stands out...just an ok way to spend a rainy afternoon.

In this small museum just in front of the Cathedral there are some beautifull paintings of Beato Angelico like one of the three Annunciazione he made. From outside it seems a very low profile museum but once inside...... Absolutely not to be missed if you...More

I've been three times, my wife four. It has a beautiful Annunciation by Fra Angelico and an entire room of paintings by Signorelli and/or his students. It's a must when in Cortona.

Check out the Signorelli's, they have several as he was born in Cortona. Also a lovely sculpture by Cavatti and of course the Frescoes in the lower Chapel, including an Annunciation by Fra Angelico.

It's a really small museum concentrating on religious art. The most famous piece in it is the Annunciation, but I found the small chapel underneath to be more interesting. There are a lot of stairs going down, but worth the climb.

The Museo Diocesano in Cortona- located adjacent to the Duomo- is a little gem of an art museum. Being based in Cortona during the Summer, I never tire of the amazing Italian art on offer here. Fra Angelico's 'Annunciation' is a particular favourite of mine,...More

Nevermind Fra Angelico's Annunciation but to me Gherardi's fresco at the oratory below the church takes the cake as this museum's most interesting piece. The cycle, seen in the twelve lunettes on the walls, showed the sacrifices offered by characters of the Old Testament, one...More

I was amazed to see one of the 3 "Annunciations" by Beato Angelico exposed in this small museum in Cortona. It is an incredible piece of art and is in excellent condition. The museum has other very interesting art pieces by Italian masters.
