For us this was the area of Firenze that gave us the true and picturesque Firenze. The area of Oltrarno had an atmosphere that felt original and the tourist traps seemed further away. The square got some great cafes and restaurants. Nice architecture and some...More

We were awaiting the Church opening for viewing. This is where Michelangelo dissected bodies from the morgue in order to sculpt pieta and David. He understood the human form better than anyone at the time, or perhaps for all time. We had lunch in what...More

Look for the pizza places here, they're the best around. You'll often have to wait a little and share a table, but once that pizza arrives: you'll be thankful you have all of your senses to enjoy it.

Actually we were not aware of the reputation of this square on the south side of the river before visiting and were actually here to visit the Church. But on exiting the church the laid back nature of this square was easy to feel. Perhaps...More

Santa Spirito is not far from the main areas. At Santa Spirito you can find a good mix of locals and tourists. There are great restaurants over there. On certain days there is also a market. We loved the atmosphere there.
