- L_K1509London, United Kingdom1,650 contributionsDavid, who else?Booked online for a time slot entry. We were not allowed into the queue before our time but the queue for our time had started to build up about 30 mins before. We went on Thursday evening when the museum has a late night. There was only two floors to see, of course the main one has Michelangelo’s David. Much more impressive in size than I thought it would be. A stunning sculpture. Most of the other art is religious in nature on the top floor or a room of busts and sculptures. Overall I reckon an hour tops for this museum. Toilets are on lower ground floor, near the exit.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten September 22, 2023
- SMLikestoTravelBengaluru, India391 contributionsCan’t miss this date with David! We had booked our tickets online already. Based on recommendations by fellow travellers in various online forums, we had booked the second earliest time slot ie, 8:30 am. We got in easily without any long queues. Once inside, we used the Rick Steves audio guide and made our way around. The highlight is definitely David. Even this early in the day, David was surrounded by his fair share of admirers but not so much to make it an unpleasant experience. We could still take in David in all his magnificence, without crowding.Visited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten September 29, 2023
- Dan LBlacksburg, Virginia39 contributionsThe Accademia Awaits…It’s Not All About “David”So very pleased we booked this private tour of the Accademia in Florence. Our tour guide, Guido, was on time, pleasant, and very well educated of the Accademia itself, and of course, respectful of all the incredible art and sculptures within it. Although, “David” is the obvious highlight of the tour, Guido ensured we didn’t overlook the musical instrument wing of the museum, while learning the importance of the Medici family’s influence over this important period in World and Italy’s history. We would highly recommend this very personalized and educational tour.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten September 30, 2023
- Ken TGlen Oaks, New York902 contributionsDavid is worth the wait timeVery busy here. Even if you have a timed entry ticket you will face the long lines and wait times. Once inside, everyone heads toward Michelangelo’s David. To be honest, the only artwork that is worth the wait in this Gallery.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten September 30, 2023
- MiaAvezzano, Italy13 contributionsHistory & beauty meetWe loved Florence. It is rich in history, art, and good cuisine. We stayed at the Westin Excelsior. It was located in an easily walkable area of the city, and was just beautiful in every way. The concierge was extra attentive. The staff was over-accommodating. The breakfast was great. We had dinner upstairs on the Terrace/rooftop of the hotel which had an incredible view, and it was so good. I ordered some sort of fish, and it was outstanding. We did skip the line tickets to the Statue of David & the Duomo. We wish we had bought them for the baptismal area outside the Duomo as well as the crypt inside. We toured the Pharmcia from around the 12th or 13th centuries and really enjoyed that tour. I highly recommend a personal local guide. We used one for a day of Florence tour which included the two skip-the-line tickets. It was worth every penny. She knew shortcuts to get us from place to place and explained all we were seeing at various exhibits. She also took us to a very good Gelato place, Vivoli, and it was amazing. Our favorite pasta we found at Trattoria 4 Leoni. It was the pear and cheese pasta and was heavenly. If you are buying leather, buy it closer to the Duomo where the monks make it. The quality is high and the prices are cheaper. There are local wineries just 45 minutes out of the city that offer tours and cooking classes. They are very fun. We went to Casa Emma. Florence was beautiful. We really loved it. I would go back if given the opportunity.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 9, 2023
- BigstockbrokerNewton, Massachusetts69 contributionsImportant TipFirst important tip: Book your timed ticket in advance. Then upon arrival you need to go to the pick up window (#51 Via Ricasoli) right across from the entrance. Unlike the Uffizi there is no reference to do so on the email confirmation. Really! Fortunately, we figured it out and enjoyed the awe inspiring David.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 14, 2023
- TravelinhLos Angeles, California1,015 contributionsGet skip the line tickets with a tour guide for this experience!Get tickets in advance and a local tour guide if you want to really want amazing historical insight. It is definitely worth the price for art and supporting local tourism. The David is a 17ft Renaissance masterpiece sculpted in marble by Michaelangelo. It that should definitely be checked off the list if you are visiting Florence.Visited December 2022Travelled with friendsWritten October 15, 2023
- activenretiredNew Lenox, Illinois814 contributionsIf in Florence, you must go!The main attraction, obviously, is Michelangelo's David and you simply must not miss it if you go to Florence. Reservations are time-specific. If you just show up without a reservation, you are not likely to get in. MANY tour groups take up a lot of the reservations. We went at 8:00 pm (20.00 hr) and found it not overly crowded. You can spend as much time as you like, but I recommend 1-2 hours.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 17, 2023
- Richard MHampstead Norreys, United Kingdom937 contributionsJust an amazing place full of art historyWell there are essentially two main reasons to visit. First is the statue of David by Michelangelo. It is in a large hall and is just immense. The sheer size and complexity of the carving takes your breath away. So muich better in reality than in pictures as you can see every vein and sinew in the carving. Just amazing and a wonder of the art world. The rest of the museum is full of artwork, mostly religious from the past 800 years that is definitely worth spending some time to view.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 22, 2023
- Ali921Edinburgh, United Kingdom1,479 contributionsBusy - everyone comes !Everyone comes so be prepared. Book early. Entry is well organised. Sharpen your elbows to get a good view. Actually a lot of people do not bother to view anything else so the crowd is thinner for the other exhibits.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten October 26, 2023

The museum is rather small and like so many Italian museums there are so many pictures of Christ and religion to make one bored... That said, it does have the statue of David, which of course if one is into art then it's something one should see at some point in their life. Tickets reserved in advance are recommended so you're not caught standing out in line/queue waiting to buy tickets.
Visited during COVID, so the museum was nowhere near as full as it otherwise would have been.

Apart from David which is well worth seeing there isn't a great deal of interest here in my opinion. As there is a copy of David on the piazza by the uffisi I expect quite a few people would understandably give this gallery a miss. Price is similar to uffisi but whilst the uffisi is a three our journey through renaissance art history this is a twenty minute visit to see David with a few bits of church art and plaster cast sculptures thrown in.

During the first week of November there were days when the Accademia was not charging a fee to enter. We walked up via Ricasoli and there was not line. The David statue is so serene standing at the end of a long room with some of Michelangelo's unfished works along the way. It was not too crowded so we spent about half an hour in that room alone.

Galleria dell'Accademia is always a must stop on a visit to Florence, if for no other reason than to reacquaint with the splendor that is Michelangelo's David. Even if that were the only attraction there, it would be worth the visit, but the gallery regularly has visiting exhibits which may each visit unique from previous visits and worth the price of admission.
As with any destination popular with tourists, I strongly recommend booking in advance with a scheduled visit time, rather than brave the walk up line.
With the reservation, which they honored even though it was meant for June 2020, we were in and out in about 90 minutes.

It was a privilege to see arguably the world's most famous and best statue with my own eyes. The statue of David is a true masterpiece and is so much more impressive to look at than in the photos. €2 entry if you're from the EU aged 18-25. €12 is the normal adult price. Be mindful of there being a que- we were waiting about 10 minutes outside on a February Wednesday afternoon. Might be worth buying a ticket beforehand for tourist season as the que for reserved tickets was non-existent.

You have to go just to see the Statue of David. Even if nothing else in the museum strikes your fancy he is totally worth it. I do recommend booking tickets in advance on the museum's website, at least a week out to make sure you can get in. You can still get tickets from trip advisor for the next day though it is just a few more dollars.

If the only reason you visit is to see David's statue you will not be disappointed. The photos do not do it justice and the attention to detail is awesome.
We arrived at around 10am, and could either queue for approx 40 minutes and pay the standard rate, or pay 25€ and fast track within five minutes. We chose the latter and passed through the security and covid checks quickly.
Most of our time was spent admiring David, an incredible piece of work completed over 500 years ago. Staff did not hurry us through the gallery and whilst I'm not an art enthusiast I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, even the Museum of Musical Instruments. I would definitely recommend the Galleria dell'Accademia if you're in Florence.

Let's face it, you are here to see David.
I would argue that that is all there is if you are going without a guided/ audio tour.
The museum is very small and there are a lot of Michelangelo unfinished pieces until it leads up to David.
However, going in alone, it didn't say much to us.
Perhaps a guided tour/audio tour would be better.
It also hurts to pay a similar price to Uffizi for this museum...
My husband and I were in this museum maybe 30 minutes max.

If you go for nothing else, Michelangelo's David is an absolute must. It is absolutely impressive, and much bigger than I expected. It is a wonderfully beautiful masterpiece. The collection of religious art work is outstanding and the plaster casts of many famous sculptures are also on display. If you are an historic musical instrument buff that section is well worth it too. You can spend as little as an hour there or as much as a full day depending on your particular interests. Although reservations are a very good idea, and likely necessary in late May through to mid September you can buy and ticket and get in on a first come first served basis. You can reserve and get your ticked on-line but make sure you use the "official" Accademia website, obviously all of the "tour" companies (Get Your Guide, Viatour etc) can and will sell you the tickets and reserve your audio guide but that isn't necessary, perhaps more convenient but not necessary in the quieter periods. There are small guided tours with a guide who can and will tell you the history and provenance of most of the works if you have interest in lots of detail, or you can rent an audio guide for a couple of Euro which we did and found it detailed enough for us.

Everyone visits the Galleria dell'Accademia to see the massive statue of David by Michelangelo. That is the right reason to go and it doesn't disappoint. Like visiting the Uffizi, it makes sense to get a booking which will give you a 15 minute window in which you can enter via the priority lane. If you don't have a booking it often is better to go late in the day when the queue has gone down. Mornings are a nightmare in the public line, The rest of the collection is interesting inc the plaster casts used by all the great sculptors. David is the star though and the presentation is well designed to give everyone a chance to view the statue (and take a selfie if you must).

Nelle domeniche con musei gratis dove non è possibile prenotarsi, quanto tempo di coda si trova a maggio o giugno?
Written May 4, 2024
Buongiorno. Saluti.

WE want to know how hot do the museums get ( Accademia and Uffizi ) ? Do the museum's have air conditioning?

The museums are much cooler than outside because they are old and have thick walls. You won’t be too hot

You will be granted entry no problem. :)

Can I buy tickets when I go there? do i wait too long? Do I need to buy online? also how much?
Written February 23, 2023
Yes, you can, but you're probably looking at a 2-hour queue in the high season and a 30-minute queue in the low season.
Buy online - much, much better.
