It is necessary to cover your shoulders and knees when entering the cathedral. They will not let you in unless these are covered. There are many people selling scarves in case your shoulders and knees are not coverd. Worth seeing.

Absolutely stunning building from the outside, especially if you can catch the late evening sun on it but personally I would not queue long to see the inside because there isn't a great deal to see. If the queues are big, buy a panini and...More

If you visit Florence, you must climb to the top of the Duomo. Gorgeous views of the city and countryside beyond. Astoundingly beautiful cathedral and baptistery.

If you want beautiful views of Florence, don't queue for hours to go up the Duomo or Campanile. It's a waste of time and money. Cross over the River Arno, go to the Piazzale Michelangelio and click away there. One it's free, two it's cooler...More

Enjoyed seeing the art work up close, loved the views of the city from above the dome. We just wished that we would have known that by joining the queue at 11:00am, we wouldn't be inside until 1:10pm; a long time in the sun.

Only viewed from outside as queue to enter the church was very long (was early am so may have got shorter as the day went on). The building is amazing and dominates the area. You can climb the dome and tower if you wish and...More

Worth a look, suggest you arrive early, if the queue is very long spend your time more wisely elsewhere.

If you did not take a tour, then you would have to wait in line to enter the cathedral. Entering the cathedral is free, but if you want to enter the baptistery or the bell tower, you need to buy the tickets from office on...More

The day we were at the Duomo was a gay rights march and the crowds were enormous! Fun though and later in the day a lot quieter. Still a stunning building in anyone's books and well-worth the line up to visit.

Florentia, as it was called by Latins, is permeated by
an eternal beauty spread in all corners of the city.
The historic center is characterized by the immensity
of the Duomo, able to transport tourists into the
brightest age of Florence: the Renaissance. Who does
not know the Brunelleschi Dome, San Giovanni
Baptistery and the Giotto’s Campanile? Everything is
enclosed here and it would be easy to imagine the city

Hi Jan, You are best off booking on-line for the Dome climb ! You can queue but you may turn up when several bus loads have disgorged their hordes !! Plus with a booking you can't miss !
