This 19th century piazza has undoubtedly the best panoramic view of Florence. The square is decorated with copies of Michelangelo's sculptures, but it's the view people come here to see.

Walked up the hill, taking our time and stopping at the rose gardens on the way up.It was well worth the walk. The views are stunning and breath taking. It was very busy on a February morning but we had no problems taking in the beautiful views of the city. A small place to get a drink and a few... More

This is a nice walk from the Florence city center through the Oltrarno district and up the hill. The hill is rather steep but the view of the city is well worth it.

We took the bus to the Piazzale Michelangelo (take the number 12 from outside the train station - tickets are around 1 euro). The bus journey up saves you having to ascend the steep hill and you pass the fort walls on the way. The viewpoint is amazing as you can pick out all of the major Florence attractions. They... More

The statue was beautiful, as well as the walk up the hill and the views. The space in the plaza around the statue was plain, nothing special, but we were there in Feb and there were not many people and nothing really going on besides a few vendors there mid-week.

We were lucky enough to visit as part of our guided tour. Walk to the wall where you will get the classic view of Florence, overlooking the city. Amazing!

Wonderful view. Easy walk from city, though plenty of steps to climb. Take water - significantly dearer here!

You cant miss the way up to this iconic landmark at the other side of the river. It is a nice walk up but you can get there by bus from the main bus station. I did the walk up there and the bus ride going back to the station to take the train. The great views of the city... More

Staying in Piazzale Michelangelo

Neighbourhood Profile
Piazzale Michelangelo
Just outside the ancient walls of Florence, Viale Michelangiolo starts. It is a winding road rimmed by wonderful poplars and holm oaks. The long ascent opens up to the most beautiful and famous panoramic viewpoint of Florence: Piazzale Michelangelo, where an elevated terrace offers visitors an incomparable and breathtaking view of the entire city from above. During good weather, Piazzale Michelangelo provides visitors with a serene space surrounded by the amazing landscape, better if accompanied by a fresh gelato from a local kiosk. During night, visitors will be dazzled by the warm lights of the capital of the Renaissance. Spend a second with the silent Romanesque beauty of the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte: the one that wishes good morning and good night to Florence!
