Rent a pedal bike buggy and pedal around the entire port atop the wall. The views are amazing and it only takes about an hour or so

Porta di Santa Maria is the northern entry gate to the medieval walled city of Lucca. Cars can drive through its arches. Santa Maria is not as ornamental as Santa Pietro.

The huge gate at the north side of the wall, made from the red bricks with solemn and simple form, was built in the 16th century based on a design by Ginese Bresciani. The shrines on outer arches hold stone panthers holding the coat-of-arms of the Municipality and the Republic, and the central on the statue of Madonna with a child. It is large and convenient entrance to the city.

Gate built in the fifteenth century which today represents one of the 3 passages to the small historic center of Lucca.
Before the entrance, with a bit of luck, you can park on the blue lines.

The one dedicated to Santa Maria is one of the gates of the Renaissance walls of Lucca and in particular the one that faces north. Architecturally it is quite simple with a statue of the Madonna in a niche and two panthers above the side openings
