Climbed this tower in Lucca on a Tuesday. The ticket process is easy; you will walk about 200 stairs to reach the top. Gorgeous views. Highly recommend!

We chose to climb this tower since the Clock Tower was closed during our time in Lucca. After paying the 6 euro admission, we headed up the wide stone steps. About halfway up, the steps changed to a metal staircase but were still wide enough to let others pass by. Only the last couple flights were on a very narrow staircase that was only wide enough for a single person. There were plenty of wide landings and rest areas so it was hard to believe that we had traveled over 250 steps once we reached the top. The shade from the seven trees at the summit was nice as we walked around and enjoyed the views.

No need to be discouraged by the 200+ steps to the top of the tower. The stairways are so nicely designed, with frequent rest stop places, that I didn't find the climb tiring. It was the nicest thing I did in Lucca. The beauty of the trees, together with magnificent views, make it a very special place to visit.

Some 260 steps up this tower which give a super view over the top of the town of Lucca inside the walls.

It’s another tower with a good view. It has small trees on top - pleasant shady spot (if crowded) on a hot day. You could definitely look down on your neighbours from here. Nice but hardly must do and expensive for what it is. Better off getting the combo ticket at the Duomo and climbing that tower (for the view) - and getting the very interesting archeological undercroft of Santi Giovanni thrown in. All for less…

It was crowded, both going up the stairs and when all the way up in the tower, but it was not that expensive and offers a nice view over Lucca.

233 steps ... but actually the climb was easier than anticipated and so worth it for the amazing panoramic views of Lucca from the top! We absolutely loved this experience. Top tip - best to get there quite early though to avoid the heat and the crowds - it's understandably popular 😀

We recently visited Lucca and this was one of our "must see's". The tower is particularly famous in Lucca, as was the tradition historically, it was built by a wealthy family.

I shan't give you the history, you can easily find that elsewhere. Our review is just some practicalities/observations.

First things first, we thought it was great, fantastic views, loved the roof top trees, such a great thing. Definitely worth a visit.

Entry - we bought a 3 visit ticket which included this tower, the Clock Tower and the Botanical Gardens. This is definitely worth doing - if you decide to do this they will ask you to chose the time you visit the Clock Tower, so bear this in mind.

Time to visit - when we were on the top it was a bit busy, it didn't detract from the views etc but it did mean we didn't spend as much time there as possible. So a simple tip, ask in the ticket area, they can tell you how busy it is on top. We should have done that.

How hard is it - you do have to have a certain level of mobility and fitness, the climb is all by stairs - BUT - there is no rush, no time limit on your visit, so don't be put off. Give it a go, take your time if you need to, the way the tower is built you have plenty of places to rest if needs be and it is beautifully cool on the way up and down.

Head for heights - unless you are genuinely a vertigo sufferer you will be OK. The actual top/roof is no issue, for the nervous amongst you it is the final few flights of stairs which may test you a little, but they are fine. You are not exposed to any risk and remember thousands have been before you, so you'll survive.

Conclusion: We would recommend, get the 3 site ticket and enjoy. Take your time, try to avoid the crowds so ask downstairs.

This medieval tower overlooks the scenic town of Lucca. You can hike up to the top to enjoy the panoramic views. Of interest, this tower has several trees growing on its top. You don't see that every day.

It's one of the attractions In Lucca that's worth a visit for the panoramic view of the city and surrounds. It's a relatively easy climb to the top and the "garden" on the roof. It's kinda weird that there are four oak trees planted on the roof for the purpose of gaining additional height and prestige for the owner. It's worth a visit.
