LIS is a school of Italian language and culture located at walking distance from the city center, adjacent to the walls outside S. Anna Gate. We offer group courses and individual classes of Italian for students any age and level, and recreational activities (like excursions, cooking lessons, bike trips, seminaries on Italian cinema or music). Our mission is to provide our students, beside teaching them our language, with a practical and enjoyable experience of our way of life, aiming at a mutually enriching cultural exchange.

I spent four weeks at LIS in August 2017. It was a memorable experience and one I hope to have again. Lucca is the perfect place to learn Italian - it's safe, easy to get around, just the right size and full of beautiful buildings, piazzas and wonderful places to eat and drink. The school itself is superb: I have... More

Our second time at LIS. Love the way all the staff are so friendly, the teachers present the lessons in a very non threatening manner, the school building is very comfortable and well situated inside the city wall and the enrolment procedure is very easy. The extra options during the week are varied, something for everyone. We will be back.

I spent the month of September at LIS. As a beginner it was a great find and an excellent school. I attended classes daily and was most impressed with our teacher Eleanora and the variety of work she presented. Even at this stage the total immersion approach worked very well. The classes were challenging (which is what I wanted) but... More

After several years of night classes I was an expert in Italian grammer and vocabulary was good but I could not converse. So I felt it was time to either immerse myself in the language or give up altogether! I had been to Lucca before and really liked it. I decided to go there on my own to get maximum... More

We returned to Lucca Italian School this year after attending two years ago. The first time we attended Speak and Walk and this time we attended Speak and Cook. Both were fabulous! The owners and staff at LIS are some of the best people you'll ever meet. Their method of total immersion is the best way to learn. Whether you're... More

In Sept, myself and two friends attended LIS for 1 week. After the initial assessment we were slotted into the appropriate classes. There were the maximum no. of 10 students in my class with a good mix of ages & nationalities. The lessons were conducted totally in Italian but at a level & pace suitable to our skills. The topics... More

We just spent 2 weeks studying Italian here. It was our second visit. The teachers are fantastic and we loved the location. The teachers speak almost all Italian (except in beginner level). Along with the basic grammar, cultural information is also taught. The classes are designed to focus on conversation. The extra activities are so worthwhile. We were fortunate to... More

At LIS they have a way! The combination of LIS and Lucca does a wonderful job in making sure you will speak Italian after having spent a couple of weeks there. An active participation in four hours of classes five days a week is not a choice and yet I was happy to take part in all afternoon activities offered,... More

This morning I had a private walking tour of Lucca with Susana. What a treat. A chance to explore ,listen, practice Italian and see Lucca. Grazie tanto Daniela and Susana for helping me discover Lucca. A nice change from the classroom---even though I love class work too!
