The Tower of Pisa (180 feet in height) was begun in 1173 and, due to its faulty foundation on unstable soil, leans precariously more than 14 feet out of line, preventing visitors from climbing its 300-plus steps to the top.

Climbed the tower as part of our trip to Pisa, steep climb, but worth it for the great views of the surrounding countryside. An interesting, informative visit to an historic structure!

The sun was out, the sky was blue, there were not that many people about, although the antics of some of them were funny to see, as they pretended to hold the tower up. Since its cleanup, it is strikingly, brilliantly, shiny. I had heard that it was quite grubby a while ago, and had never really had the inclination... More

When you see Torre di Pisa in the history book it doesn't compare to the beauty in person. So delicate.

Pisa is a lovely city and although the weather was rainy and cold but I really enjoyed watching Torre and if I had more time that would be better I went with half day tour with bus from Florence and totally everything was wonderful.

Okay, it's a must see. But really it's just a leaning tower. There are a lot of people on the square who let themselves photographed in strange positions to get a 'unique' photo. Please don't be one of them. Visit the Cathedral or the Baptistery instead.

I visited on a day trip from Florence and found it to be less crowded this time of year and relaxing to visit. Having snacks and wandering around is nice. Watching people take their leaning photos is also amusing. There's not much else to do around but the museum and cathedral are worth seeing.

This is a stunningly beautiful structure. It was built to be a bell tower. Construction started in 1173 but it was not finished until 1399. The architect is unknown. It is most famous for being a leaning tower but in 2001 work was started to stabilize the building and it is no longer sinking. In truth, Pisa sits on marshy... More
