Walking around this central square, one can find the Palace of the Scuola Normale of Pisa, the Church of S. Stefano and the Palace of the Orologio, where Count Ugolino della Gherardesca was imprisoned and condemned to die, as narrated by Dante in the Divine Comedy.

so calm and authentic Italian-Tuscany piazza - great architecture and very ancient fountain with a lion sculpture in the centre

A living, working part of the city that is also beautiful and atmospheric. Wish I'd gone to the Scuola Normale University ... not a bad spot.

Our hotel was just around the corner so we saw this every day. It was always quiet (except when they were showing some old movies at night) and we enjoyed it. Horse and buggy rides stopped here but I never understood much about the buildings.

You will find two big buildings bordering the Piazza. The scuola normale superiore and a university. However you can't find anything special or outstanding. Furthermore there is no restaurants or shops there.

This square is slightly away from the main attractions of Pisa, but still worth a brief visit if your time permits. There are fewer tourists around so you can get up closer to the historic buildings.

I won't spoil this review by posting pictures from within the church, but all I will say is go in and be completely blown away at its beauty! The architecture in the square is wonderful.. When I visited they were clearing up after some festival,...More
