Dont miss this. Need 1/2 day to see everything. Has printed information beside each attraction which is very helpful. No audio guide available.

It is a good place to visit if you want to understand the historical past of Siena. The museum is located in a former hospital, a place where orphans were raised and educated. The Hall of the Pilgrims beautifully summarizes the functions of the hospital with its frescoes. Be brave and go downstairs, to visit the Treasure Museum (Museo del... More

The building is made of many, unexpected levels, following the side of the hill upon which it is built, and only when you see the wooden model you realize that the hospital was actually a small town by itself. Inside you could find paintings, archeological findings, a brief history of the city and much more. Allow for half a day... More

This museum is huge. After seein some art in the first floor, including a lot of frescos depicting different hospital scenes. We traveled downstairs, and there were a lot of rooms used over the years for different religious functions. Continuing down another level were another set of rooms an passages that have been preserved. There were a lot of religious... More

Allow yourself at least three hours to truly enjoy this museum. It has a huge collection of varied items and the building itself is sensational.. there are amazing archeological pieces and some great paintings but most of all we loved descending down and down to the old road that passed through the hospital. There were two huge ornate painted carriages... More

This must be one of the most underrated museums in Siena. Great collection of reliquaries, interesting archaeological stuff, frescoes etcetera. But that is all peanuts compared to the complex itself. Prepare for a wonderful journey through layer upon layer of this centuries old building with endless dwindling paths that lead you along its treasures, be it a reliquary of the... More

Crazy to see and learn the history of this old hospital but not much to see inside. Random collection, not worth your time in my opinion. Could have went without it. Enjoyed the civic museo much more.

As other reviewers have highlighted, this is a confusing mixture of ancient, modern and everything in between. The complex itself is hugely impressive, but to understand it and appreciate it, you really need to either speak Italian or have a guide or guide book - the signage, brochure and maps that come with the ticket are really unhelpful. There were... More

This building was originally a Pilgrim's Hospital to house all the ill and no doubt weary pilgrims who stopped at the Duomo on the trek along the Via Francigena. That's why it's on the Duomo piazza. The upper parts you immediately walk into were portions of the hospital, and there are amazing fresco from the 1400s, showing what daily life... More
