The Renaissance interior of this Basilica is beautiful, but some of its chilling displays of dead religious notables may give you nightmares, including a shrouded skeleton with a wax head and a mummified body.

Not being a Catholic, I have little understanding of the need for relics; however, I do respect their beliefs. Yet this church for some reason housed several bodies of dead people-- Saints? I'm not certain about the one under the white sheets, however, as seen...More

We saw this beautiful church initially from the beautiful villa Bidini gardens and later walked down to see it close up. It Is one of the icon buildings in the city well worth seeing

The brick facade of the basilica is unfinished (though the attached brick bell tower is finished). There is a great view of Siena from the basilica steps. The interior has lots of frescoes and paintings. There's a sign board with an description in English.

The basilica has a simple beauty, and serene atmosphere. The art inside will not knock your socks off, but the interior space itself is very beautiful. If you are a fan of sacred architecture, or if you just love all things Italian, don't miss this...More

A church open for prayer so off the tourist track. Very peaceful and quiet. Great views of the Siena Cathedral and the Palazzo Publico from in front of the Church.

Don't miss the Lorenzetti fresco painting on the right-hand side chapel, and above all don't miss the view from the front steps looking back at the city skyline of Siena!

The Basilica of Santa Mari dei Servi is, I see on the web, rarely noted among the more splendid churches of the Servite Order. We were wandering Siena, out for a long walk last fall and came across this large but othewise unimposing structure. A...More

Nowhere near as famous or frequented as the famous Duomo of Sienna, but beautiful in its own right with some great frescoes and paintings within. Also a great vantage point to look over the city,

The great cathedral of Siena is one of the masterpieces of Europe. There are a number of works of art, to study and admire. The ticket that lets you into the basilica, also gives you access to the baptistry, the lookout tower and more. Well...More
