Not as ornate as the Sienna Cathedral, but the Basilica di San Francesco is beautiful, peaceful, and inspiring. Sitting and reflecting inside brings you closer to God, something that is much harder in the crowds of the cathedral. If I lived in Sienna, this would...More

The nature of a basilica is its relics and this one has the relics of St. Catherine. It also has stained glass windows that are quite new. Worth a visit.

Considering the Siena cathedral this one definitely falls short. But of course that would be mean to compare. The church looks beautiful from outside and much simpler in appearance. I do like the red muddy colour though.

Large sunny piazza, basilica's architecture is attractive as are the many adjacent buildings. Interesting the cloisters, and other buildings with their courtyards.

Historic fires emptied much of the interior. Altarpiece paintings now sit in sparse frames inside. Don't miss the adjoining courtyard, with an interesting collection of fragments, now an entrance to spaces of the University of Siena.

Big, beautiful and site of a Holy Miracle. We have been here many times. Our daughter was married in this Holy Site. Beautiful architecture, paintings and the presence of God. The Church staff and Priests are wonderful. Please see for yourselves.

This is a large, but very simple Basilica. There is plenty of art but it is at a much more modest level. Its a great Franciscan church, highlighted by its simplicity.

A bit hidden but a great find! I was struck by its simpleness and height. To see for those who appreciate all kinds of churches in Italy
