The evening view of the Basilica and the surrounding countryside from here is really spectacular. This of course coupled with the portico which is memorable by itself.

Tuscany, Umbria ... how many ways can the average person say quintessential Northern Italy? Who would not want to spend several (rain-free) days here? So much to see and do and only a tourist's stop worth of limited time to taste it. But here goes ... The Basilica is the main player in town but the lesser ones are only... More

Enter the square and take time to enjoy the ambience and view of the Cathedral. There are some steps that take you up to the garden which also gives you a good view.

You can't mistake this magnificent entrance to the Basilica San Francesco. Plenty of places to rest and even a toilet! Sit and watch the world and his brother go by. Beautiful views of the valley below.

This is the square that we walked a while back to get to the Basilica of St. Frances, beside the arched passage there is nothing else to see.

This is a great place for great photos and beautiful views, pity though that is sometimes ruined by the passage of a few cars that rarely has access to the surrounding area. However,... More

This street leads to the basilica of St Francis. Along one side is a covered and arched passageway. There is something peaceful about the journey down this road as with so much else in Assisi it is beautiful and imbued with spirituality

Via Portica is in essence the street that leads to St Francis Basilica. It is a very beautiful street, especially in the evening.
