This fountain has a legend of going around it 3 times and you buy a certificate to say you are now a madman from Gubbio. It is called the fountain of the madmen. One of us did it and you have to pay 3euro in...More

Much has already been said about the myths, legends and fun surrounding this fountain, so I don't need to add anything to that. Let me simply say therefore, that what I liked about this fountain was that it was made from a major piece of...More

Take the opportunity to take part in the local custom of running around this fountain 3 times – you are then declared a citizen of Gubbio and officially mad! Unfortunately the adjoining Bargello Palace was never open while we were there so we couldn't collect...More

If passing by stop for a photo and take a breather. I'd let the kids run around it and go mad on their own!

If you stick your finger in the fountain then run around it 3 times, then get splashed, you qualify for a certificate of madness in Gubbio. Wonderful, I've got mine!

Pleasant little piazza with a nice fountain. Don't forget to run around it three times to be declared mad! 😜

I had read of a ritual to do around this fountain, something quaint and unusual, apart from the funny spirit that made this famous fountain, I think it is not even worth wasting time looking for it, it's just an ordinary fountain, Gubbio is a...More

Friendly staff, a varied menu of authentic local fare, a medieval dining room setting, and wonderful aperitivos, pastas and sauces. They had a good truffle season this Fall which the kitchen infused into a pasta dish that was amazing. Stuffed gnocchi in a cream sauce...More

The tradition is to circle the fountain three times and then splash the fountain's water on your face. Then you'll become an "motto onorario" (honorary madman) of Gubbio. Harmless fun, and make a video to show your friends back home.
