We were in Geneva for only a day in 2002 (I lied on When did you visit? question for this review.) and had no plan for where we'd go. The cathedral was the most obvious site, and we headed that way. The cathedral, itself was...More

A wonderful place to explore all the history of the site: well-lit, accessible and informative, the crypt underneath the cathedral offers up layers upon layers of old worship grounds and churches that have been uncovered. It's amazing how well everything is preserved, in all its...More

You could literally (but shouldn't) touch the bones buried in the walls of the excavation site. Very well done and quite interesting. Free with your Swiss Rail Pass -yay

This is an amazing exhibit, and a must see. These excavations were conducted starting in 1975 when the cathedral was being renovated. The whole history of Geneva is revealed, layer by layer. From stone age villages to pre-Roman Celts, to Julius Caesar, early Christian Geneva,...More

It's easy to walk right by the signs for this archaeological below the cathedral. But don't miss it. The excavation is very extensive and an audio tour provides information not only on the development of the cathedral through the centuries but the history of Geneva.

Coming into this museum, I didn’t really expect much from it, but I was very pleasantly wrong. It was excellent, the audio guide fascinating as one walks among the vast collection of the superbly preserved cathedral remains, the remains superb in themselves. This was a...More

We've learned a lot about the history of the city during this visit. The audioguides are really good (definitely take them!) and the temperature was very refreshing during the hot summer day :).

Any history enthusiast must make time for this when visiting Geneva. Through excavations and exhibitions below the cathedral, this site tells the story of the city of Geneva from it's earliest pre-Roman beginnings. Affordable (we paid 8 fr each and that included an audio guide)...More

The site under the cathedral is large with a well configured walkway. It is amazing to see building layers dating to 400 AD. Put this on your must-see list.
