We went up in June. Took the cogwheel train up and came down using the cable cars. This mountain is the closest to Lucerne. However look at the webcams before going and go early in the day. This is my second trip and the weather...More

We went up to Pilatus on a questionably partly cloudy day. I recommend that you buy the boat cruise there that comes as a package. The cruise on Lake Lucern is an experience all in itself. Afterwards, you go straight from the boat to the...More

I'm from Colorado and love the mountains. The difference with the Swiss mountains is that you start from sea level and climb to 7,000 feet; whereas, here in Colorado, I live at 6,000 feet so it's a gradual climb to 14,000 feet. The views are...More

We bought the golden round trip ticket to Mt Pilatus. If you have a Swiss Travel Card or Eurailpass you get a 50% reduction on your ticket price so we paid about CHF50 each. The ticket office is opposite the train station. This included a ferry...More

We ascended via a double cog wheel train up the steep slopes past forest, meadows and whitish boulders enjoying views of Lake Lucerne and the city below while angling to catch photos of the tall granite rocks piercing the heavens, it seems, topped off with...More

Take the cog rail up and the cable car down for great sights. There are several small trails at the top of the hill to see a gorgeous area. Look up and down for amounts in goats - they are there. Lots of wild flowers....More

My advise for all mountain trips in Switzerland in June is to always dress in layers. Weather changes very quickly and you dont want to be shivering instead of enjoying the views.

We took the boat from dock number 2. We had a Swiss pass so we didn't have to pay for the boat, just the cog wheel and sky tram. We paid 32 CHF but the price would have been twice that. We purchased our tickets at the cog... More
