Grindelwald is a good town from which to explore the Berner Overland area. Big enough to have choices for dinner and still have some small town charm. A bit touristy but if you can find a room outside of town it's quiet. The views of...More

If the crowds are anything to go by, this is not an attraction worth missing. The cable car ride, the cliff walk and the flying fox ride are great, but it's also a wonderfully scenic hiking trail where you can exhaust humongous data cards just...More

We very much enjoyed our day at first. The cliff walk is a bit nerve-wracking but worth it! They have excellent bathroom facilities which is very much appreciated. We brought our own picnic lunch and did the hike to Bachalpsee Lake - definitely worth it....More

We hiked up to the Schreckfeld Station from our hoel in Bort. We then took the Gondola up to the peak of First Mountain. We walked on the cliff walk which felt very safe. We were interested in doing the First Flieger (zip line) but...More

First is the gondola ride that goes directly up from Grindelwald. It used to be a two seater chair lift that took you up and down sitting sideways but now it is a modern gondola. At the top there is a good restaurant with a...More

My wife and I are moderate hikers, and found the trails to be easily manageable with excellent views of the Jungfrau region. We took the gondola to the top and walked most of the way down; but did one of the legs on these neat...More

We took the gondola up to First, then hiked to Bachalpsee - a must! The trail is wide and moderately uphill, although it was strenuous enough for us, getting used to the altitude. Bachalpsee is a beautiful lake with a panoramic view of the Alps...More

The cable cars take you up 7000 ft to the viewing point. It takes about 20-25 mins. From the viewing point, you can walk up another 45 mins to get to the lake (not recommended for parents with strollers as it is quite a hike)....More

I've visited First a few times now and every time my breath is taken away by the way the vista opens up as you rise up the mountain. At First you can eat your picnic or eat in the Restaurant, they're very accommodating and friendly...More

It takes around 30minutes from the base station in Grindelwald to the top station at First and it's a fantastic journey. There are fabulous views all the way to the top. It's never very high above the ground, unlike some, but you follow the mountain...More

I think Grindelwald train station (or maybe bus station) would be the nearest point with luggage lockers.

Do you have a car? It's about 2-3 hr drive from Zurich to Grindelwald. And it's a beautiful drive too! If you do the trains, you get to grindelwald thru interlaken. The gondola up to first mountain is a short 5 min walk from... More
