The train up to Jungfraujoch is very expensive which is really the only negative point other than the observatory can be quite busy at times. You hike across the path along the glacier towards monchjoch hut (delicious cheesy ham meal here called 'the Monch' it is a MUST) The view in the morning from the hut is stunning. If you are lucky like we were to see sunset and sunrise, then you will see golden rays over vast mountaintops.
We set out at 7 am (3 am would have been better!) The first part of the ascent is very easy - no main route as such, just a scramble/easy rock climb upwards until you reach the first snowy ridge. Requires rope and basic belaying kit.
Crampons, ice axes and self arrest skill is 100% necessary for this trip, due to extreme exposure on either side. 3 am would have been better as the ice was not as firm at 7 am, making it difficult to ascend, and a wake up call to descend, which required much patience and care! Between snowfields there is not enough time to remove crampons, so extremely narrow ridge scrambling on exposed rock is made yet more hair-raising.
This climb is definitely worth the effort. The view across the vast mountain range is stunning, and if you enjoy the thrill of walking on ridges which are a few feet wide with sheer drops either side, then this is for you! It is a truly stunning and exhilarating mountain to climb!

My wife and I just returned from a two-week vacation in Lauterbrunnen for a hiking and sightseeing trip in the Berner Oberland. We viewed the three main peaks (Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau) from many perspectives: Kleine Scheidegg, Grindelwald, Wengen, Gimmelwald, Murren, Grutschalp, the hiking trail south of Mannlichen, etc.
My favorite viewing spot was at Restaurant-Hotel Grindelwaldblick which is located about 5-10 minute walk north of the Kleine Scheidegg train station (on the hiking trail to Mannlichen) -- and about a couple hundred feet higher than the train station. Good food and service at the restaurant -- and great views of the mountains from the large deck.

The Mönch is the most climbed of the three mountains and can appear to be the most dominate of the three although it is not the tallest. The views are just awesome.

Truly amazing and impressive mountain massif. It's great to enjoy the iconic view. It's part of a range of others, of course- perennial snow. It's definitely worth going to view this!!

Absolutely no point in going to Jungfrau if the weather is bad as you'll see nothing but clouds. Fortunately after 4 days of bad weather we were finally able to make the journey with gorgeous weather conditions of blue skies and sunshine. We left reasonably early to avoid crowds and the views from the top were truly spectacular - pristine, dramatic white peaks against a brilliant blue sky backdrop! Wonderful to experience but by late morning crowds everywhere. 5000 people are allowed on the mountain daily and if you dont purchase tickets beforehand you do risk missing out on going there! We checked the forecast and bought tickets the previous day and were told that many people miss out on going not realising there is a limit on numbers allowed. It was terribly crowded when we left before lunch so we were pleased to be going - tour groups especially were converging upon Jungfrau in hoards!

Go early - I took the first train up in the morning - you will avoid much of the tourist rush that happens shortly after - and depending on the timing - you can watch the sunrise from the top of the observation platform. Well worth getting out of bed early for.

The train to top of the jungfarouch is very expensive, but very scenic views. Also you get to experience the history of how this track was built. The train moves at a very slow speed at its really steep. You can reach upto lautterbern using your swiss rail pass. But you need a seperate ticket to go to the top of jungfarouch. From Kleine Scheidegg you change the train and it enters the tunnel which is about 9km long to take you to the top of Europe. They stop the train twice in between for about 5 minutes each for you to view from the observatory. Once you reach the top their ice caves. They 3D wood carvings. But nothing can beat the view of the snow valley. It's difficult to keep your eyes open its so white. So I recommend carrying googles. Even in summers it's really cold. Food options are limited with cafés only. It takes almost the entire day to and fro when we travelled from lucerne. It's a skiing destination basically but one can go to just for enjoying the beauty of the place. If you have swiss rail pass you get top of jungfarouch ticket for discount but it's still on the expensive side.

Amazing experience though the weather was a let off. It is just so beautiful up on the mountains and just amazing to see how this beautiful rail was built. The ice carvings were amazing and the effects was lovely. The 3D images were outstanding. Really a beautiful experience.
