We have visited this castle on both of our trips to Bellinzona and recommend it for families. The grounds of the castle are worth exploring themselves and you don't have to pay to access these. The museum inside is nice, but my kids were personally...More

We were staying in Bellinzona so our hotel was not far from the first castle, Castle Grande, to our surprise actually has a lift to go to the top. We walked down the back side of the castle and passed people hiking to the top....More

We were a bit disappointed by this castle. Considering its place in the UNESCO world heritage list, we were expecting a lot more from it. We spent hours travelling to Bellinzona, which we later regretted. Lugano, just 30 mins away from Bellinzona, has a lot...More

A nice no-admission-fee castle right in the middle of Bellinzona. You park in an underground garage adjacent to the castle, and once you come up top ground level -mark where you are since there are four different places to access the garage. There is then...More

Attractive from outside! Impressive looking from town. Not much to do once there, except for the views. But well worth it!

The history of Castelgrande and the other 2 fortresses in Bellizona is interesting, but you will need a guide to help you with it. The views are very good and probably the main reason to visit this site for the casual tourist

The location is magnificent, the views at the castle and from the castle are spectacular. The castle was heavily renovated in the 1980s, and it looks that too little of the original form was conserved. The museum is disappointing, there is an interesting film to...More

Although there is no luxury items/rooms, it is a good stopping/sightseeing location. It is very challenging to go up the stairs (15 min walk) in hot summer. There is a hidden lift with special design to go up the back of the castle.

We took the train from Lugano out to Bellinzona and walked all around this lovely town. It’s Saturday so they had market stalls all set up selling everything! We then walked into the castle and paid to see all three. The main thing is admiring...More

The reasonably priced museum (5CHF) offers an interesting film about the history of Bellinzona and the castle. The collection also is nice, if a bit small. The museum itself is really nicely restored and the service and information from the lady running the museum was...More
