One of the things that I love about Zermatt is that there is so much to do for non-skiers to feel involved in the whole ski experience. I loved that it was so convenient to take the train to the top of the mountain to meet the guys for lunch then take the train 30 minutes back down to the... More

This rack railway climbs about 5 miles from Zermatt at around 5,200 ft to the summit of the Gornergrat at around 10,200ft. In winter the area is snow covered and from the train you can watch skiers, snow boarders and toboggans shooting down the slopes at speed. At the summit there are impressive views of many high mountains including the... More

This is a true masterpiece of the railway industry and should not be missed! Ticket prices are different depending on the season, winter tickets being cheaper than summer ones: 76 CHF pp during winter vs 94 during summer. If you have a swiss pass then you will pay half of the normal price. The views are amazing and you will... More

It is so beautiful, it is life changing and life affirming. I looked at the view for one hour. The restaurant and wait staff are good. The little gift shop downstairs was pleasantly surprising. I bought a lovely hand-made mug. It is the perfect day and the little train trip up to the mountain is wonderful

Enjoyed this gem in winter and it was busy enough! Would never wanna see Zermatt in summer and overflowing with tourists. Still, this is the way to get the view you are looking for.

This train brings you from Zermatt city center in 30 minutes up the Gornergrat at 3,000mtr in the middle of ski runs. Views over Zermatt and the Matterhorn. Quiet, comfy and slow.

We had a wonderful day going from Tasch up to Zermatt and then up to the Matterhorn on the Gornergrat railway. You can only get to Zermatt by train as they don't allow you to drive up the road. Only deliveries for the shops etc.

This was on one far side of the resort and you can take the train up to the very top, which is Gorengrat with little stops along the way that you can get out to look around if you're not skiing or take the opportunity to jump on your skis and go down the mountain. At the top is a... More

For those that dont ski this is a way of getting to enjoy the stunning views of the Matterhorn without the need to ski back down. Has to be one of the best train journeys I have ever been on.

As part of my recent holiday in Zermatt, I spent a few hours high up in Gornergrat. The train trip there was spectacular. The train wound it's way slowly up to the top and then crossed through wonderful skiing areas. On arrival there one can sit in the sun and drink in the amazing snowy peaks with a warming hot...
