This street is hidden - right in the middle of bustling Zermatt, and winds its way down to the river. On its whole length, we saw three other people! Here you'll find the "old" Zermatt - old original buildings, many of which stored grain for...More

Don't miss walking down this street. Experience what it was like living here hundreds of years ago. See the traditional mazots. Also, fountain commemorating Ulrich Inderbinen who climbed Matterhorn over 370 times and his last ascent was when he was 90 years old.

Take a short detour from shopping, dining on the Bahnhofstrasse to experience what it was like living here 300+ years ago. This street has a number of the old log structures some of which are still in use today. They are incredibly picturesque with their...More

We stumbled on this section of old "historic" buildings and loved it. There are little plaques on some of the buildings, to give you an idea of what they were used for; how old; etc. Also, the Matterhorn Museum gives good info on how it...More

The wooden buildings in this street are hundreds of years old. The owners clearly keep them well maintained, though most are now simply used for storing firewood etc. Such a photogenic street!

It is only a little street and I must admit we almost missed it but I did love it there. Charming old wooden buildings, the oldest part of town, some buildings few hundred years old. They give an amazing idea of life back there. I...More

Hinterdorfstrasse is 'Old Town' Zermatt. It's right in the center of Zermatt and some of the log cabin type housing dates back to the 16th century. No one lives there now and there are no services right there, but one can stroll down the narrow...More

This was such a cute street of historic homes and architecture right in downtown Zermatt! I can’t imagine how they were still standing under all the feet of snow, but that is a testament to how well they were built!
