The Opernhaus Zurich, or the Zurich Opera House is the home of musical and cultural performances in the city. The new venue was built over an older theatre that was burnt down. For a taste of ballet or the opera, this is as good as it gets. In fact, the Zurich Opera which performs here was voted the Opera House... More

The building of the opera is superb. We saw there the ballet Petruschka, music Igor Strabinsky. Also the ballet Sacre the same composer.

First time visiting and the venue was smaller than I would have expected. However, that smaller setting creates a very intimate setting. Great performance of Der Freischutz and the first time I had seen that Opera. Great stage setting and orchestra was one of the best. The venue is located next to the lake it’s a nice walk from many... More

When one gets inside the opera house for the first time, it is delightfully ornate but significantly smaller than many other houses. This makes for a more intimate experience and presumable means that productions have to be modified sometimes for the stage size. The calendar has an excellent selection of old favourites and others and we were very pleased with... More

We attended Cavalleria Rusticana & I Pagliazzi and it was GREAT ! It is smaller than what it appears on the internet but simply beautiful. It is very classic and classy but you also sense the discrete renovation. Swiss quality at its best !

I attended an impressive performance of the Zurich Ballet ("Anna Karenina"). Great auditorium, backstage obviously very up-to-date, overall a very good experience. The Zurich Ballet is clearly a first-class company with a creative director (Christian Spuck) and talented dancers at all levels. Orchestra was also splendid in a collage of Rachmaninov piano pieces mixed with Lutoslawski.

Nice looking building. Looks like watching an Opera would be nice here. It is lit up very nicely during the evening hours.

The Operah House is a main attraction in Zurich with many types of shows scheduled. We took in a modern ballet take on the classic Romeo and Juliet. The architecture is everything you would expect from an old European city Operah House. I recommend dressing up a bit and arriving early to take pictures.
