The main library of both the city and the University of Zürich, the Central Library is a popular destination for students and general readers, and somewhat of a meeting place. Nice architecture with a section of English-speaking books on the bottom floor.

excellent english book section in lower level - great for expats & often has a free exhibit that is interesting - can use the restroom and lockers if you need them
