We both took my Mam and friend to one of these. I'd suggest you book front row seats as it's well worth it. Even on mobile phones the photos and videos of dancers and orchestra come out great.

You can’t miss the town hall, beautiful imposing building set in the market square, with a plethora of streets leading off to a variety of shops & the square is a hive of activity with lots of street bars, cafes & restaurants nearby. Lucky the stairs were open so we could grab a photo at the top of the steps. It’s also the main coach parking area for concert goers.

A lovely square in centre of Maastricht. The town hall is imposing and we loved the melodic bells chiming on the hour. It has lots of little bars and cafes and is lovely to sit in and watch the world go by. Seats can be in the sun or the shade and drink prices reasonable. €5 for a glass of wine. Mr H and I found it had a lovely friendly atmosphere and service at the bars was quick with lots of choice.

By Dutch standards the Maastricht market square is large. Cities in the north and west closer to the sea in the (soft soil) lowlands could not realize big squares and developed along different waterways.

The square in Maastricht during medieval times was much smaller, as for defensive reasons the city was more compact. Towards the end of the 17th century this changed. The old walls lost their function and were partly demolished allowing more space for the center. A prestigious new city hall was built and opened its doors in 1664. The square got its present shape.

Nowadays especially on Fridays the market is very much alive with locals buying daily necessities and fresh produce. The square lined with historic buildings is also an excellent venue for attending events.

Maastricht's historic market square located in the heart of the city is not exactly the most impressive public square that you would come across. Oddly, the 17th century Dutch Baroque style Town Hall sits like an island in the middle of the square, which is something rather unconventional when it comes to the layout of a public square. Something more conventional are the numerous cafes and restaurants surrounding the square as well as the obligatory presence of a statue in the centre. Maastricht honours one of its favourite sons, Johannes Petrus Minckelers, an 18th century professor of physics who invented the illuminating gas, whose statue stood proudly at the centre of Market Square holding an eternal burning flame in his hands. Shopping is the theme on and around the square, with a food and flea market held here twice a week, the Mosae Forum shopping mall welcoming shoppers at one corner and the cobblestones shopping streets of Binnenstad radiating from here.

I went to Maastricht to visit a friend who is studying here. This market square is entirely unimpressive, and overall, most of the city is. I didn't do any of the tourist attractions, but Maastricht as a city is not one to do its city architecture.

Nice market in the historic centre. There was indeed a market when we visited, but it looked significantly smaller than usual. I'd also expected more local produce, so value for money wise you'd be better of driving to one of the smaller villages in the area. Nonetheless, the square itself is still beautiful!

On the main square is prominent the town hall. There are also terraces, some monuments, shops and a few stalls on the square. It's not a pleasant square. Most people walk across the square from the buses to the shopping area of Maastricht.

I loved visiting the square. The town Hall is the main focal point and is very imposing! Lots of restaurants around the square where one can sit and witch people. You can visit the basilica. I enjoyed the view of the architecture of the buildings.

Beware of certain stall holders in market ?My wife and I visited
This ladies clothes stall on edge of square near to the H&M store

My wife went to buy a top at a ladies clothes stall for 10 euro all items were 10 euro each. She handed him 50 euro,he put item in bag then said he would get change left her standing there waiting after 10 minutes a man of similar liking came to stall My wife asked for her change showed him top in bag he shrugged his shoulders .spoke in Dutch as if to say it wasn’t him would not help her.She came to me where I was waiting for her and told me what happened .We went back to the stall and stood there for 30 minutes waiting he would not look at us .No police around to tell .I realised this man and his accomplice were operating a shady stall and robbing tourist by taking their money acting as a double act .We had to leave without her 40 euro change as we could not get help.Another stall holder told us these were not local stall holders and his look told us this was a regular occurrence .
