To begin with, this museum it is a must see, either inside or outside, or because of the area you will not miss it heading into the city, but you have to see it one way or both. The area of the museum and the museum itself outside, are amazing, it is a masterpiece of architecture, and truly stunning with... More

I came to Amsterdam to look for what Holland has created not the tacky and seedy side of things. This museum is fantastic! The number of master pieces keep going on and the way they captured their era takes you back to this bygone time where the Netherlands was comprised of tradesmen, artists and many other talented individuals.

If you ever want to see the best of the best of the great masters, Rembrandt's best of the best is on display. His early painting to those at the end of his life are on display. Many other artist work of the same period, but Rembrandt who originally was a print maker from engraving turned to painting. This is... More

Absolutely lovely museum. Very well presented and so much amazing artifacts, paintings and objects. I would recommend to visit the observation deck over the library, very cool view. I would also recommend going here as early as possible to avoid big crowds and be able to enjoy the museum porperly.

Using the tram, it was very easy to get to this amazing museum. The grounds are beautiful and the museum itself offers hours of viewing. After viewing the wonderful works of Rembrandt which were overwhelming in size and detail, we visited the porcelain (Delft and Meissen) and jewelry exhibit. I suggest you go early to avoid the large crowds. Be... More

Beautiful! The night watch and other Rembrandt paintings, Vermeer's Love letter, Van Gogh... huge collection from the 1100's till 1900. The museum building itself is worth a visit. Buy tickets online to skip the line. There are locker rooms just in case you need to leave backpacks or other stuff.

The Rijksmuseum is old, built almost 200 years ago and recently extensively renovated. It is handicap accessible, but the paths are not exactly straightforward. The plan of the museum follows history, with the oldest items and works on the 3rd floor, the 17th and 18th century on the 2nd floor, and the 19th and 20th centuries on the 1st floor.... More

What an amazing museum...from the beautiful gardens on arrival to the imposing architecture of the building sets the tone for what's inside. Be prepared to walk and take time to get through the vast history and artifacts not to mention the paintings and furniture, on a plus note there are lifts between floors also a shop. Would recommend a visit.

The Rijk is undeniably a world-class art museum, housing some of the world's real art treasures. Of course there is Rembrandt and Vermeer....but there is so much more! Don't miss going to the Rijk, and I advise that you get to the entry before 11AM to miss the crowds. Also best on a weekday for similar reasons.

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
