Vast beautiful building

Once we got our bearings we enjoyed everything in this museum. One day was not enough. It was good to find seating to admire the paintings.

This Museum houses amazing art works. Out side the Museum, there is beautiful landscapes and fountain where locals and tourists do picnics, click pictures and have good time. Big bold "I Love Amsterdam" is the attraction where every tourist gets oneself clicked. You need to buy ticket to enter the art gallery, so if you are an art lover, it... More

While this would not be a recommendation for those who hate walking or prefer entertainment, the museum is very generous with its paintings and interesting for those who share a love of art. They also permit photos which is a huge plus.

We really enjoyed our visit. We spent two and a half hours and finished the whole second floor and part of the first floor. Will have to return to finish the museum in the future. Must visit if you are in Amsterdam.

We only had a morning to visit the museum, but honestly I think you could spend all day here! Our main issues were the tickets were quite pricey (€17.50 each) - there's 3 floors of exhibitions so you get to see a lot, but you don't get a lot of information about what's there (unless you upgrade your ticket price).... A wonderful space with some great pieces. However, as a world renowned gallery, it didn't have that many world famous paintings, and negotiating one's way between the two wings was an absolute nightmare.

Be prepared to walk as the Rijksmuseum is huge! Viewing the building itself is worth the ticket price. While the museum was crowded, it wasn't overly crowded so you could take your time to view the collections and read the description.

This is a lovely building with a nice collection or art (feature: Night Watch) and a wide variety of items that include furniture, tapestries, dishes, cannons, etc. Many dutch artists are featured, plus through the works, you can learn more about the history of the Netherlands. Nice place to visit, make sure you have some time as it is a... More

It's vast. It's breathtaking. It's beautifull. And it's too much to see in one day. Start with what you really want to see, say Vermeer's milkmaid and then just wander around and find impressive exhibits (look for the ship models and doll houses) in every new room you enter. A rainy sunday morning was perfect, nowhere as crowded as I... More

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
