Visited the museum. First, The best visit the museum is to go by train/Trolly. Second, buy the tickets online so you don't have to wait in line. Once you enter the museum go directly to the second floor which is the most non-paintings come overall great experience

We've been to museums in numerous countries and this is among the best. Plan your visit, buy tickets on-line and plan for at least 3 hours.

What can you say about this amazing museum? It has the largest collection by far of the most amazing artist of the 19th Century. A MUST SEE. Recommend buying the Museum Pass that will get you in to a variety of museums in Amsterdam. It also serves to get you in the better/faster entry at the VanGogh, as the lines... More

I'm not into art but I found the story of Van Gough very interesting. I highly recommend wearing the headphones that tell his life story while your standing in front of his art. While listening to his story I started appreciating his artwork and the famous brush strokes. I would go again and I've been 2x now.

Mr Van Gogh delivered! Great afternoon with Fine Arts. Easy to get there and what a marvelous experience. Next to the museum there is a big lawn, I spend my afternoon there soaking in the May sun .

We bought our tickets online, and thus were able to skip the line and head straight in. Once inside, the enormity of his works begins to dawn, seeing four floors full of his (and contemporaries/inspirations) works. The layout is very good, and includes a ton of information about his life and career as an artist. Highly recommend for those with... More

We supposedly chose an non-crowded time for our visit to the Museum. However it was still very busy. You must arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled visit as you will need to check your backpack/large carry items as they are not allowed in. A headset can be rented or tour on your own. Small fee applies.

With a growing interest in Impressionism and examination of the painters' efforts and struggles, for me, this visit added to my understanding of the painter's point of view, and purpose. Deepens the mystery of life in the fields, and the work it entails. Sadness for the tragedies that accompanied Van Gogh's path, following his passion.

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighbourhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
