Although the place is amazing we have been sat for over an hour waiting for eggs benedict & focaccia toasted sandwich. The waiter has * just *realised we have no food ... and asked what we had ordered . 5 mins ago.. still waiting . Have watched candles changes , tables come in be served , pay and leave . Half a mind to leave !!!!

Not a good place to go the food and the service were bad but the worst part is they tried to trick us for 79 Euro. And they did not look sorry for it,after the discussion we got a poor apology and the money back.
Bad place to go!!!!!

De Waag ( Weigh House ) is an absolutely stunning gate house that is located in one of Amsterdams most famous and popular squares namely Nieuwmark.
Originally part of the walls of Amsterdam this gate house has been used as a guildhall, fire station, museum and a theatre over the years and is now the home of a great restaurant known as Cafe In De Waag.
This famous structure was featured in Remnants famous painting The Anatomy Lesson Of Dr Nicolaes Tulp.
It a structure that dominates the wonderful Nieuwmark square and looks superb when illuminated at night.
Very easy to locate by jumping the metro down to stop Nieuwmark.
Well worth checking out.

We opted for this restaurant an evening when walking by. We sat outside and was given our drinks pretty quick, however there was a little mix up in the numbers of drinks.
The service was OK, even though the restaurant was full of guests, both inside and outside.
The food was very tasty, but the portion could have been a bit larger in my opinion. Not so pricy as one might would have guessed due to the location.

looking a it from outside you wonder about it it looks imposing and then you enter, it is a mix between modern and the past a lot of candle chandeliers etc.
the place was quite full yet they found us a table. the menu is /was not large but had what was needed.
We ordered a steak and fish as a main course and sticky chocolate cake for desert.
The fish was small in size but well prepared and very tasty. The steak arrived and was not hot so it was sent back they apologized and gave us free coffee to compensate. the desert was not what I expected but nevertheless was tasty.
All in all a enjoyable evening out

De Waag is a cozy restaurant in the center of Nieumarkt - Amsterdam where you can enjoy nice food. You can either make your choice from the a-La carte menu or from the restaurants daily menu.We had Dutch beef nicely cooked as per our order. The place is very cozy, staff very kind and doing their best to serve. The only thing we can comment is that our beef came to our table a bit cold, not like "just from the barbeque".But the place itself and taste of the beef was good enough not to argue about it.One more tip, consider their recommendation about the drinks. The Dutch beer served with the beef was real good.

This is the old weighing house where goods entering the Amsterdam port were weighed for taxing purposes. Now it is a commercial building with a restaurant and dining terrace.
