I prefer small, specialized museums to the behemoths, and this museum certainly fits the bill. You can spend an hour or two here and emerge feeling you have a much better handle on Amsterdam's architecture and evolution. PROS: -Amazing use of projection technology in the initial room. - Pacing was just right through the tour of the museum. - Loved... More

This museum provides a good overview of the city's history and its construction. Its exhibits are particularly well put together if you're interested in bringing kids to this museum. My only complaint was its size - the museum in total is only about 4-5 rooms with just one central exhibit piece in each. It was worth it for me as... More

We loved this best of all. Not typical of a museum but the planning and bulding of Amsterdam comes alive here. It is a must see. Great gift shop too..

Engaging, informative, multi-sensory; what more could you ask for in a museum. I highly recommend this gem.

If you expect to find historical interiors with period furniture, furnishings and artefacts, you will be disappointed, as we were. This 'museum' consists almost entirely of an audio-visual 'experience' describing the historical development and building of the city of Amsterdam, and even as such it is rather simplistic. In view of this we feel it is misleading to call it... More

Small but very interactive museum where you can learn a little of the history of Amsterdam and canal construction. I really enjoyed the various mini ‘shows’ and in particular the massive interactive dolls house! The model of Amsterdam was pretty impressive too – down to the teeny tiny cars! Spent approx 1 hour, tickets are €12 each but our hotel... More

Not on the museum card, but definitely worth shelling out the cash for a ticket. Incredibly interesting and well done, considering the space that they have. A must see for any visitor to Amsterdam.

We might well have missed this if it wasn't on our I AM AMSTERDAM ticket( travel and attractions purchased at Central Station) . This is a small but insightful museum, imaginatively presented to introduce visitors to Amsterdam and its canals - not overly detailed or tedious, and not very time consuming - but enlightening as to how the city and... The design and presentation of this museum made this an unexpected highlight of our trip to Amsterdam. It is full of clever and creative features that I have never seen before and which fit very well with the information presented.
