It was great and great value for money it's absolutely massive we spent 4 hours walking around and enjoying all the sights the zoo had to offer. We also had lunch in the zoo main food area had the best burger and great chips.

Although i usually don't like zoos, Artis is the best I have ever been to. It's very big and spacious. There is a very large variety of animals. The animal cages aren't small and they do provide the animals room to move (however a jaguar in captivity is still a sad sight). The best thing i saw there were the... More

THIS old zoo has been open to the public NOW for a couple three century's NOW . It's got some very well cared for and friendly beasts . Perhaps they smoke a Little weed some times . The Dutch government maintains this animal establishment very well . In all the world that I have visited zoos , this is the... More

All types of animals in decent, humane settings. Lots of storks, cranes, and other big birds have free roam and fly throughout the zoo. Includes a planetarium, insects, and microbes. Restaurants on site with good food. This is a big zoo so wear comfy shoes and plan at least a half day. Some exhibits actually allow you in with the... More

Had a fantastic day out with my 18 year old daughter, there were loads of animals to see and not very busy, we spent a lazy 3 hours walking round, would defiantly go again, I think it was value for money much better than London Zoo.

What an amazing zoo! Very large with a fantastic collection of animals- they've done a great job of trying to preserve native habitats as best they can and give animals plenty of space to roam. The indoor enclosure where animals aren't in cages is very cool as bats, monkeys, iguanas and other creatures roam around freely. Lemur land is great... More

We decided to visit Artis on a Monday afternoon, right after Easter. The sun was shining and there was a 20 minute line to get the tickets. We owned the Amsterdam Card and Artis is included in the price. The place is pretty big and it took us around 3 hours to visit the whole zoo. But don't let the... More

Would definately bring a picnic and lay out in some of the beautiful gardens within the zoo grounds. It is a bit far out from the center but is easily accessible by public transport.

I don't usually like Zoos cause I feel sorry for the animals there. But that Zoo was so AMAZING that I spend 3 hours in it and never thought even that one animal is miserable...Well, the panther was but for another reason-they took his mate to the hospital for some exams and he was alone at the day and NOT... Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
