Really good old fashioned Amsterdam pub serving Aepjen beer of high yeasting, very decent IPA's, and offering laid back ambiance with friendly and chatty barkeeps. Recommended.

We enjoyed some lovely beers here. Met some locals and had a great time. It has a nice atmosphere, and enjoyed looking at all the monkey stuff. If you're looking for a quieter place to have a drink and chat, make sure you stop here...More

The In 't Aepjen is one of Amsterdam's old cosy brown bars. It's located on Zeedijk, less than five minutes from Centraal station.

Had read that Int Aepjen is one of the oldest pubs in Amsterdam so this seemed like a good place to have our first drink. Cosy, wooden and authentic, it was crammed full of Dutch and primate paraphernalia.

I wanted to have a drink here but the man behind the bar was so rude I didn't bother. It's a fantastic but don't dare to try and take a photo, even if you are spending money there you will be told not to.

One of my favorite spots for an after work drink with friends. Small café with only 5 tables. Good selection of beer. Wines do not give you a headache and the snacks are excellent. The "bitterballen" come from the Proeverij across the street and taste...More

We stopped in here for a couple of beers. Very very good beer menu, helpful barman who steered us in the right direction and great history. Sadly there are no longer any monkeys hanging around, but also happily no fleas either!

Worth a quick visit as this is tagged the Oldest Bar in AMS. It is named after a monkey, so there is plenty of that kind of decor. It is quaint and a nice place to grab a beer. Service is typical of AMS in...More

On the plane over, we overheard someone talking about this, calling it the Monkey Bar and saying that it's one of their brown cafes (dark but cosy wooden interiors with stained walls and ceilings). So we of course had to go because why would someone...More

To visit Amsterdam and not explore De Wallen (the
Dutch name for this area) or to go only to gawk at its
saucier aspects would mean missing the opportunity to
view some of the city’s most picturesque canals,
historic landmarks, and impeccably presented examples
of traditional local architecture – not to mention
Amsterdam’s own Chinatown, Europe’s largest Buddhist
temple and more local treasures. Sure, there are some
