- Jikke O2 contributionsabsolutely worth a visit (with kids)Went with three kids aged 8-9-9 (Dutch), in order to see the children's-section. Very well told, in four stories. Kids learned more about WOII, from different perspectives. Combined our visit to Amsterdam with Anne Frank House.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten October 16, 2023
- Mike D5 contributionsResistance museum.Although it was a bit difficult to locate we got a friendly greeting and very helpful staff. The museum.does have audio devices to help for those of us who couldn't speak Dutch to save our lives Easily used and the displays put a very "human face" to the occupation of the Netherlands. Learnt a lot of things and they didn't 'gloss' over the dark parts of this history. Anyone with a historical interest would be advised to add this to their Amsterdam itinery.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 17, 2023
- Subra B3 contributionsTerrific experience at Verzetsmuseum (WW II Dutch Resisistance Museum) in AmsterdamWe started our tour when the museum opened so it was less busy than later. The arrangement of the exhibits, the personal stories that lend color to the broader events and especially the very easy to use audio guide (point at number on wall and it plays the appropriate segment) made it an outstanding visit. Well done to the museum for such an outstanding experience.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten October 17, 2023
- ccrosnerCape Cod, Massachusetts4,057 contributionsGreat Museum! We visited this museum on a very rainy day and were so glad we did. We learned a great deal about the brave men and women who tried to fight against the Nazi repression in Amsterdam during WW2 and also about what it was like to live in the Netherlands during that very difficult time. Your museum admission includes an audio guide that works very well. But if you would prefer to read the descriptions, they exactly reflect the audio.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 21, 2023
- Joh54 contributionsPowerful, well thought out exhibitsWe found this a really powerful experience and the exhibits were very well curated. It focuses on the people involved in World War Two and the resistance. Fascinating, inspiring, and sad stories. The audio tour was helpful and there are plenty of panels with additional information. The exhibits were very well designed and different from each other. There is a special kids exhibit that our kids really liked and so did we as adults. We spent over two hours here.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten October 25, 2023
- AinselaSawyer, Michigan38 contributionsGlad we added this to our tripVery clean, well laid out museum. Extremely interesting. The audio boxes worked really well. We had watched A Small Light about Miep Gies and her role helping the Franks during the German invasion. The museum has many, many more stories of the Dutch resistance and how they helped other humans. Experiencing this place inspires reflection that is needed now.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 28, 2023
- ColoradoTraveler1120Denver, Colorado139 contributionsExcellent, well designed museumWe are so glad that we devoted 90 minutes to this museum. It tells the story of Dutch resistance during the Nazi era, and does it with appropriate detail, nuance and personalization. Having walked by the Anne Frank House, we actually opted for this museum instead of the tour there. And are glad we did, feeling we got a more expansive view of that horrific period. The Resistance Museum is extremely well and logically designed and curated. Further, it avoids easy, black-and-white answers fitting the history of that period in which the Dutch were trapped with no good or obvious options.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 9, 2023
- Stuart RGlasgow, United Kingdom2 contributionsPowerful, emotional and well constructed museum about Dutch resistance to the NazisThis is an outstanding museum, telling the story of Dutch resistance to Nazi occupation. The personal stories, audio and visual resources and items on display are wonderful. I would definitely recommend this museum to any visitor to Amsterdam.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten November 9, 2023
- Sharon M32 contributionsBrilliant, fantastic . I cannot praise it enoughWe pencilled in up to two hours for this visit but we stayed for four hours . From the start to finish was amazing. You have an audio guide that was second to none. You can do it in the order you want and if you miss a bit you can go back and point your audio gadget at he piece you have missed and listen to it . Real people's stories from the time, photographs and short films. I went in with very little knowledge and came out with a wealth of knowledge and a thirst to learn even more. The best museum I have been in for a long time.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten November 13, 2023
- Nadina PNew York City, New York726 contributionsUnderrated!I started this day with a self-mapped walk of the Jewish quarter, then came here right when this museum opened at 10am. This was completely worth it. I'm a social justice activist myself, and I've been absolutely horrified at the the things happening in the world. I'm also a holocaust history nerd (enthusiast seems crass here), and I've always struggled to understand how something like this could happen in the Netherlands. This museum really helped me understand this history. I went through it very slowly, interacting with some of the exhibits as much as possible, listening to everything I could on the audioguide, and really trying to be present with the information. It's a lot, and it can certainly overwhelm you--I have a feeling a lot of people need to pick and choose what they engage with, and it's fine. I ended up spending about 2.5 hours here, and it was totally worth it. I'm so glad I went. I think this was the most underrated spot I went to in all of AmsterdamVisited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 15, 2023

I always love coming back to the Netherlands. The Dutch are always so friendly, helpful and kind. I especially love visiting the museums from Amstersam to Den Haag to Apeldoorn and more. I had first visited this Dutch WW2 museum back in 2015 for the first time, but wanted to come back again to take some more time and absorb more information. Back in Canada, students learned a lot about world war 2 and you actually want to see more and learn more when coming to Europe.
My grandfather had also fought to help liberate the Netherlands in WW2 with the Canadian army. So coming back to visit is always heartwarming for me.
Back to the museum....
The museum was kind of hard to find initially when you're near central station. You need to use your phone GPS to get you there, but it's a very nice scenic walk if you're a tourist. It took me about 15 to 20 minutes to get there, but it goes by quickly.
The price to get in was reasonable and you could take your own personal tour guide via using a headset. All of the displays were very well done and super informative if you stop and take the time to read them. The museum really goes into detail about life was like for the Dutch before, during and briefly after the war. Living conditions in the war was brutal with limited food and restrictions.
There are some small "movie theatres" throughout the museum, so you can have a little rest from walking and enjoy well informed film footage.
If you take your time, you're going to spend at least 2 hours in the museum, but it's worth every moment and hopefully upon leaving, you'll appreciate life more.
Overall, very well informed and interesting Dutch museum in Amsterdam. Reasonable price, not too hard to find, very clean and friendly staff.

We visited the Dutch resistance museum on a very wet and windy day in Amsterdam. Brilliant way to escape the bad weather and for only €12 each me and my sister were really impressed at how well designed and informative it was. We ended up spending around 4 hours there in total.
Lots of interactive parts and brilliant ways that they’d laid everything out. The whole place was very hands on. We used the English audio guide which is free with your ticket and was really great and easy to use.
Felt like I learnt a lot and found some of the real-life footage really touching. Definitely worth a visit!

The Dutch Resistance Museum tells the story of the life in Holland during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands in World War II. It's the story of those who resisted and those who collaborated with the enemy. The exhibits are very educational and moving. Well worth a visit. When you check-in, you get headphones in the language of your choosing and, as you pass each exhibit, you hear the stories of the people and events of each period.

Booked a visit for the last day of our trip to Amsterdam thinking it would maybe take us an hour or so but spent nearly 2.5 hours going around taking in all the stories and content.
We found it completely fascinating with a huge amount of detail. WWII is a subject I am pretty interested in but didn't know a lot about the Dutch involvement in beforehand, so it was pretty informative for us both. Included in the very reasonable entry price was a free audio guide which you scan as you go round, learning of the different stories and people.
If you are looking for a museum to visit in Amsterdam and the war is of interest to you then I cannot recommend this highly enough.

This museum is incredibly comprehensive in its coverage of the role of the Dutch resistance in WWII. It follows a chronological timeline, with interactive elements and interesting sidebars, such as an entire exhibit containing the tools of the spy trade. There were stories of real people along the way, and you could take a card of one of the people before you began the main exhibit. There is a free audio guide which I would recommend.

I visited your Resistance Museum Junior today with my two 12 year old boys. We’ve been to many museums aimed at children and young people in many countries but rarely have we visited one that has been so creatively presented, so interactive and has captured their attention from beginning to end. Discovering at the end that the 4 children we’d been finding out about are real people and hearing them talk about their memories and hopes for the future was really moving. I highly recommend this museum to any families with young people - it’s aimed at children aged 9+ and I think it’s one of the best children’s museums we’ve been to. The boys loved it and so did I.

We spent nearly three hours here and I had to call it quits after my brain filled up. The museum has a lot of informative exhibits with details that I didn't know about the Netherlands during WWII-- and I'm an avid reader about WWII history. I started the museum tour without the audio guide but quickly got one and started over.

Our family (children aged 12, 10 and 8) from London visited the Verzetsmuseum Junior today and were seriously impressed. What an effective and engaging means of communicating the reality of occupation and war to children (and adults). As another reviewer has said, this is about life under occupation and the hard choices families had to navigate and live with. A wealth of information about real individuals with vastly different experiences of the occupation enjoyed through an interactive experience. And to then 'meet' on screen the 4 main characters in their old age with the benefit of their life perspective was a real bonus. If only all museums could communicate so much information so effectively and creatively - it provides a great model and is one of the best museums we have visited for children. We were unfortunately unable to obtain tickets for the Anne Frank Haus (it seems all tickets for the Anne Frank Haus are on sale 2 months in advance and sell quickly) but we feel that this experience almost made up for that - one of the 4 main characters was in hiding and knew, and had links with, the Frank family. A huge congratulations and thank you.

The museum focusses on the different reactions of the Dutch population during the Second World War. There is also a room on the War in Indonesia, which was a Dutch Colony at the time. This part is really interesting because it is not really thought in school nor present in the media. If you want to hear all the audios from the audioguide and read all the document it will take 3 hours !

The main problem with this museum is that it was so interesting that we stayed much longer than we planned and we never made it other museums we'd hoped to see! It's truly fascinating, and very well displayed. It's much more than just about the resistance, it's really about what life is like under under occupation. It doesn't judge, it doesn't glorify, it just tries to explain what ordinary people lived through and the horrid choices they had to navigate. If I had one little quibble it would be that maybe they could have been more explicit about the level of collaboration. It's certainly mentioned, but often more in passing. Again, that's just a quibble and I understand that these sort of museums are dealing with sensitive issues and getting the right balance is difficult. You certainly don't want to miss the Anne Frank house, but this museum provides a wider perspective.

The website says "E-tickets are valid for six months from day of purchase." Does this mean that I can visit more than once in the 6 months? Or just that I can choose any one day within the six months?

Is there somewhere to leave luggage if we visit on our way to the airport?
Written February 17, 2019
There were lockers and a storage room so I shouldn't think this would be a problem but it would depend on the size of the luggage

You can get through the museum in as little as an hour BUT you should really allow two because if you don't read at least some of the information you will miss out on a lot of little known facts that will surprise you. Also the section that is for children has such good layouts and interaction that adults can enjoy too.So it would be a pity to miss out on the full experience if you can allow the time for your visit.

The exhibition is comprehensive with so much info to take on board. One hour is probably just about enough but you could and should spend at least double that to get much more information

Does this museum had big crowds and long lines? We will be visiting on a Tuesday in June next week

does the introductory anne frank 30 min session get you line skipping access to the museum?
Written May 8, 2017
It did for us. Straight in, sit down, talk then visit. I cannot say that I "enjoyed" the visit, but the talk was good for orientation. But I must stress that reading the diary shortly before your visit is best. You can imagine Anne Frank in the house. Disturbing, but necessary to do this place the justice it so rightly deserves.
