One of three main classical canals (Prinsen-, Heren- Keizersgracht) which can be best visited by one of the canal boat trips. The three main canals, especially the latter two, show the largest classical canal houses. When visiting the canals in the center of Amsterdam, than these are the ones everybody talks about as the must-see.

Great area for selfie too! This place is romantic to walk at the early evening and see the ships sailing by in the canal..

The new Micropia Museum is the most ingenuous Museum that I have seen and definetly a must with plenty of time to enjoy it

Wander along Herengracht and look up at the houses and the decorative lintels etc. Zig zag across the bridges and wander through the lovely side streets with so many independent shops and stop to eat in some of the lovely cafes and restaurants. This is a lovely part of Amsterdam.

Less toursity than central Amsterdam, but still bustling with life, great little shops, bars, cafes, restaurants, very picturesque and would stay here again on our return trip.

The "grachten" have to be visited by night. Then you can have a sneak peek when the lights are on in these houses and you can discover the ceilings of these houses, worth a try! Beautiful plaster works. You have to walk or go by bicycle, otherwise you are too fast and can't enjoy. Go for it

A stunning canal and in my opinion one of the prettiest in Amsterdam with some beautiful buildings. We stayed on here last year at the Hotel Ambassade and walked it quite a few times.

We arrived in Amsterdam too early to move into our vacation rental so we decided to distract ourselves from the wait by walking from the train station three-quarters of the way around the Herengracht. Despite cold temperatures and closed stores, our walk provided a wonderful introduction to Amsterdam: to the layout of the canals and the variety of house styles,... More

Beautiful!!! Walk it and love it. One of the 4 major semi-circular 17th century canals. Difficult to know exactly where you are, but with a good (free) map from your hotel you'll be fine. The canal date back to the Golden Era of Amsterdam. Just walk, don't forget to look up at the facades. 6000 plus buildings still from the... More
