the next most desirable canal after herengracht. I toured using the canal tour and the commentary really added something to the whole weekend for me- well worth doing at least the 1 hour tour

One must take a Canal tour. It goes through the city. One gets an idea of the whole city, its culture and its people. There are buildings, which are tilted like Minar of Pisa.

You're able to see the canal with bridges, beautiful old canal houses, some still on double lots with gardens and carriage houses behind them, and you can observe all of the different types of gables on the houses (step, bell, triangle etc).

Many of the canals offer a good photographic location, this one was even more beautiful. Worth a visit.

The second and widest of all the canals in the historic city center, the canal has many beautiful and historic buildings along its banks including the twin sisters (identical canal houses). Best visited as part of a canal cruise of Amsterdam.
