The guide said this tower is part of the original city gates and is very old. It has 4 clicks that he says all have different times and when the bells go off it anyone's guess. It did look pretty cool and the quirky history is interesting.

Very cool old tower. You can see it from a distance all around Amsterdam. It is very close to the flower market. We didn't go in. I don't even know if that was an option. It is also under some renovation right now.

Mint Tower (Munttoren) is a historic structure in central Amsterdam, situated at Muntplein, where the Singel Canal pours into the Amstel River. This was originally a gate that formed part of the city. It was built in 1480. Unfortunately, the the gate was badly damaged by fire in 1618, leaving only the guard house and part of the original tower.... More

It was built between 1480 and 1487 but this tower looks really beautiful and seems like not age at all. Very carefully protected and restore and still looks majestic. Very near to flower market and The tower was part of the old medieval city wall which still maintain its old charm till now.

Once the Amstel river gate. With the tourists milling around it is difficult to imagine the fields formerly stretching south from here.

A lovely tower in the city centre. Due to it's location it's virtually unmissable. Great photo opportunity, and well worth a visit.

Built in the 17. century, today it is just an attraction. If you visit the flower market, you can not miss it - it is right at the end of it. It was used earlier to watch the ships.

If you visit the Flower market you will see it, if you walk towards Leidseplein from downtown you will see it, if you are checking out the Singel canal you will see it. So don't worry, it will be in your itinerary however there is not much to see. The outside, it is nice and it makes a nice picture,... More

Munttoren or Mint Tower. Built in 1620. It's carillon tinkles away every 15 minutes from 8 am until 11 pm. On the hour the carillon bells give out the most lovely sounding chimes, at times sounding jazzy, also on the quarter hour a small segment of chimes is offered, nice to listen to whilst cruising the flower market.
