Great little tour around a small brewery. After you take off the price of the free drink, the tour is only a few euro. Great history of a local beer with multiple varieties. If you want to avoid the Heineken tour and do something more traditional - this is the one to do. By the way it's not connected to... More

The brewery is superb, great selection of beers, the paddle is a great way of tasting 4 beers and being able to enjoy a little bit of each of them. There are plenty of seats and when inside there is a great atmosphere, well worth a visit.

A good brewery, in a windmill, on a canal. Doesn't seem to get more Dutch to me. The prices are also fairly inexpensive and they have a nice selection of snacks as well. Great place.

This bar/ micro brewery is a must. It went straight into my top ten favourite bars of all time. I've been to Amsterdam numerous times and this was the first time I motivated myself and my girlfriend to take the hour walk, from where we were staying across the city, to visit this lovely spot. It was so easy to... More

Very unique and cultural brewery! I wanted to see a windmill while visiting The Netherlands but our short time frame didn't allow us to get out of Amsterdam. Brouwerij 't IJ was on the east side of Amsterdam, so we were not only able to see a windmill, but drink great beer inside! There are tours once a week, so... More

We had a nice walk to the brewery. At the brewery (next to the windmill) we had a lot different beers. They were very good. For every taste something. You can also get tickets to see the brewery in the back.

We took a trip out of the city centre especially to visit the place. Walked in at 13:15. The bartender was cleaning behind the bar and very rudely snapped at us and said they are closed and open at 2pm (nowhere on the door does it give opening hours). we said ok and asked what time is it now. He... More

The tour guide was very rude and unfriendly. Someone asked what his favorite beer was and he said AMSTEL. Not worth taking the tour. If you want to go and drink a bear is ok but the tour is not really worth it.

I like the idea of the bar/brewery attached to the windmill, it was a nice attraction from the outside. Inside was above average, but slightly disappointing. The beer was good, not amazing. You can't run a tab. The service wasn't amazing. We came from next door which I actually found to be a better place to hang out

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighbourhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
