Walking through the Jordaan on a hot day, we chanced across this bar and were immediately made to feel welcome and relaxed. We stayed for a couple of rounds of drinks. This place, which dates back to the 17th century, has a great atmosphere and real history as the bastion of feminism in the 70s and 80s. However, as two... More

Found out about this place via trip advisor and we liked it so much as a group we went twice during our stay. The bar is smaller than average but has amble seating space and a smoking room with a free pool table! On our second night we had a pool tournament with some lovely people who were also there.... This place is cozy and funny. Ideal to make a break, take the soup of the day and some beers, and then continue loving amsterdam.

A very cosy and welcoming place with friendly English-speaking staff. We didn't try the food but the lasagne looked nice and the coffee and selection of beers was good.

I went along to Saarein on a Saturday night on a recent trip to Amsterdam. I was on holiday with 4 straight friends so I decided to leave them in the apartment and go along on my own. This was a huge mistake as in the, I can only describe as excrutiating, hour I was there, not one soul spoke... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighbourhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
