- JaneEWorcestershire, United Kingdom116 contributionsA little gemA friend suggested we visited. As it was included with the I Amsterdam card we thought we’d pop in as we were walking up Prinzgracht canal. Paid entry is I think €5. We spent about 25 min in there as it’s small, but it was lovely and came out feeling we’d learnt something. Nice shop too. Added advantage, unlike so many Amsterdam museums you don’t need to pre-book, you just walk in.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 9, 2023
- Rob TWindsor, United Kingdom143 contributionsInteresting diversionThis small museum gives a good history of something synonymous with the Netherlands. We didn't know what to expect when we arrived, and were pleasantly surprised. Having no idea about tulips beforehand, it was interesting to learn about how they became so linked with the Netherlands. Over only five rooms, the museum is able to impart a lot of information.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 23, 2024
- LittleMissGiggly84 contributionsOverall interestingNice visit with interesting information, well presented. I wouldn't have paid for entry if not included in iamsterdam city card though. The shop upstairs was very very busy but the staff were friendly and doing their best to serve people quickly.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 30, 2024
- John KLiverpool, United Kingdom16 contributionsGreat with the city card. The museum isnt that big but it's still very interesting and worth an hour of your time. Would recommend getting the city card if you're planning to go as the general entry price seems a bit steep for the size. Lovely gift shop with lots of great choices.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten April 5, 2024
- Michael LBenicia, California103 contributionsSmall but Delightful and Informative! We had not planned to stop here, but we are so glad we did. The Tulip Museum is a small museum located behind a bulb shop near the Anne Frank House. In a surprisingly small space, the museum takes a whimsical journey through the history of tulips from their native lands to Turkey to the Dutch bulb trade to modern industrial bulb harvesting. The videos are brief and informative and the displays are good. Definitely worth the modest entry fee.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 28, 2024
- Peter BCincinnati, Ohio432 contributionsA great value for 5 eurosI stopped here to use up some time before my Anne Frank tour, which is just a one minute walk up the street. I’m glad I did. It was very well presented with a mix of photos, film, and artifacts in English that let you understand the lifecycle of tulips, how they came to Holland, and why they are still important. 30 minutes is ample time for a visit, but they have a small but excellent gift shop, too.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten May 23, 2024
- Melissa CAustin, Texas241 contributionsTulip MuseumThis is a cute little museum to learn about the history of tulips in Amsterdam and the farming process. It feels a little cheaply done and there isn’t a ton of great artifacts. It’s a short visit and there is a cute shop. We didn’t book in advance and were able to go in but it is extremely small so I imagine there is a small limit of people allowed in.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten June 12, 2024
- Megan M17 contributionsA real highlightThis museum was a highlight of our trip! Such a surprise and such a good price, especially as some of us are students. There was so much information about tulips and so much more interesting than we could have imagined! We came away with tulipmania!!! The shop is also lovely and the staff were very helpful, looking forward to planting our bulbs.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 7, 2024
- lawgod57 contributionsSmall museum, but provides a good history of the Netherlands tulip industry. You enter through the gift shop and frankly you could go in there and not even notice the museum entrance in the back of the store. It was cheap to enter ($5 or so) and that is about what it is worth. It is a small 3 room affair that you do at your own pace, but you would have a hard time spending more than 40 minutes looking at the exhibits. You can tell a lot of heart went into the museum and it was informative and easy to understand. More for adults, wouldn't be very fun for kids.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten August 18, 2024

While the museum itself is on the smaller side it is great value for money- it has lots of interactive parts and is informative on the history of the tulip and how its farmed today. People may overlook the museum as the entrance is at the back but it is worth a visit!
The staff are friendly and are very helpful if you buy tulip bulbs in the shop- they will check you are allowed to take the bulbs across the relevant border (if you are an international tourist) and recommend how to store the bulbs and how/when to plant!

I was very keen to visit here and so my lovely teenagers indulged me. What an acute disappointment! The shop was actually very nice, but the so called museum consisted of one tiny room with some info on the origins of the Dutch tulip trade, a tiny room with photos of tulips and a tinier room with a short video. I admit that I was abit miffed before we went in (the rudest woman in Amsterdam works there) but even so! Don't waste time in the museum, visit the shop and then take yourself off to the Houseboat museum!

Sarah, So sorry you liked the shop but were disappointed by the Museum. Both our shop and and museum generally score high marks - as can be seen in other reviews - so perhaps as you say your unhappy experience with a staff member colored your response. We make an honest effort to tell the Story of the Tulip and have worked hard over the years to improve the exhibition. By your comments it seems you may have missed the 5 small rooms of exhibition down the stairs. Again, apologies for your unhappy experience and we wish you well.

It is a small museum concentrating on the history of the tulips and how the tulip bulbs were brought to the Netherlands from Turkey and later on cultivated. As tulips are my favourite flowers, it was quite interesting to watch the few videos presented in the museum of how the tulips are grown nowadays in Holland. I did enjoy it.

I never knew the history of the tulip is so wide and interesting.
I won't spoil it for you but there is more to tulips than the Netherlands!
The museum is not far from the Anne Frank Huis on the other side of the canal. It is 5 Euros (as at July 2022) to see around thee museum but if you just want to go to the shop this is free.
They have a wide variety of tulip related gifts you can buy and the gentleman behind the counter is definitely a tulip expert (as you would hope).
Well worth checking out on your visit to the area.

This restaurant is a must for Tulip fans like me!. It is located in front of the Anna Frank house so it is easy to find. The museum seems to be small but it gives you so much information about the tulips, the origin, history, details people maybe didn't know about tulips, I loved it!. They have a gift shop where you can get not only souvenirs but also tulip bulbs.

If you love history and/or tulips this is the museum for you. Learn about the origin of the tulip (surprise! It's not the Netherlands!), Tulip Mania, the many varieties of tulips, how tulips are grown and harvested, and much more. There's also some other history woven in there that doesn't necessarily have to do with tulips. I spent over an hour here reading through almost all the information and watching the video at the end. If you don't enjoy reading, this can be done in about 25-minutes. Very budget-friendly activity (I believe it was 5 Euro for adults and 3 for students, and included as part of the I Amsterdam card). Make sure to follow the suggestion of how to go through the museum (starting with the presentation on the right-hand side and ending with the video). There is a bulb/flower/trinket section at the front of the store/museum, too, which does not require entering the museum. Only downside of the museum was no toilets!

We were in the area on a canal cruise and spotted from across the canal. Being garden enthusiasts we decided to fill a bit of time with the Tulip Museum.
A small but informative museum shedding light on the origins and popularity of the beautiful tulip. Some very interesting facts to be found!
Worth the nominal entrance fee.

The museum and Tim are amazing. He went above and beyond to make sure my sisters and I have the glass window Tulip art. I visited the museum in August and bought 3 of them for my sister's and I. Our father passed away in 2020 and he is from the Netherlands. So I wanted something I could bring back to the US, so my sisters and I had something from his hometown. He always had Tulips around our house growing up, and when I saw the Tulip glass art, I knew they were perfect for us ladies to keep in our bay windows to remind us of our Father. I gave them to my sisters when I returned, and my twin sisters 2 year old broke hers the first day. I messaged Tim and he mailed me one at no cost. My sister and I cried happy tears when we received the new one. It means so much to my family. Thanks so much.

Absolutely worth the €5 entry. It was interesting learning about the history of the famous Tulip, and how the industry developed, and how they’re grown and shipped all over the world. Only a short and sweet self-guided tour, I wish it was a bit longer!
Keep in mind there are a lot of steep stairs in this museum, so not accessible for physically disabled people.

L’entrée est-elle payante pour se rendre uniquement dans la boutique ?
Ou celle-ci concerne-t-elle seulement le musée ?
Merci d’avance.
