Excellent portraits in a beautiful building. Look at the architecture as well as the art. The doll's house would be better for us English speakers with some descriptions on the audio guide but still it was fascinating.

Frans Hals painted many civil guard groups (similar to the nightwatch theme)... These gentlemen loved having their group portraits taken (painted) and put on display. The museum is easy to walk through and in a typical dutch building. The latest exhibition of "I Spy With My Little Eye..." was a nice touch to help us non-artists really look at the... More

Tucked away in a former almshouse where the artist lived out his last days, this is a much larger museum than we expected, so leave enough time to stroll around - at least a couple of hours. Lovely building that does justice to the paintings and other artworks. Very pleasant tea rooms and within a short walk of central Haarlem.... More

One of the most charming museums in Holland. Interesting collection. Beatiful portrait paintings of Frans Hals. The building itself is very interesting. A must in case you visit Haarlem

Frans Hals is a famous painter. The museum is housed in a lovely building in the center of Haarlem. A very nice ancient atmosphere will guide you along numerous kind of arts. A must do if you visit this beautiful town close to Amsterdam.

This painter, Frans Hals, had a great perception of life: he loved it! You can see that from his paintings, where he portraits people enjoying life. And they are all recognizable since only honorable citizens were painted in those days. With an inner courtyard (Haarlem is full of these) you will enjoy this intimate museum, with lots of real treasures... More

From the outside it looks like this museum, located in almshouses in Haarlem, is going to be small and twee. It's anything but. Along with Frans Hals originals (largely group portraits) you also get a wealth of information about other artists from Haarlem, as well as a wonderfully restored property. I learned more about the city from this museum than... More

My fiancée and I arrived with less than two hours to immerse ourselves in the fantastic collections, I would advise giving yourself more time than this as although we got to really spend time and appreciate the works to begin with we found ourselves having to rush a bit to get everything in before it closed. The works themselves are... More
