This is just wonderful. It begins with a tour around some rooms where we are told about life in Volendam a hundred years ago, by a lovely, helpful guide dressed in traditional clothing. We then move into a VR theatre where we are taken right back in time into an immersive, emotional and outright stunning piece of theatre. I honestly felt as though I was there - and the experience made me feel quite emotional about the events that unfolded.
The guide spoke in English but the VR experience had some speech and this was Dutch but this is all part of the realism and honestly it made absolutely no difference to me; the story is clear and apparent regardless of language; it's more about what you see all around you.
If you are anywhere near Volendam, you owe it to yourselves to pay this place a visit - they've taken geeky virtual reality and applied it thoughtfully to create the ultimate tourist experience. It also helps that Volendam is such a charming place itself and so worth your time in its own right!
Can't recommend highly enough!

This is a wonderful way to experience the history of Volendam. We had a great tour guide telling us all about the traditions of this beautiful town. It was so much fun! Especially the virtual travel back in time was a nice surprise. Thanks for the original experience!

This was such a fun visit with the virtual tour and the photo op. We were all dressed up in traditional Dutch outfits and the photo turned out great!

Great village, picture perfect, easy to get to by local bus from city centre train station 20-30 min ride. Cheap cost allowed us to spend ample leisure time here to enjoy view and have a meal and drink whilst watching the bay.
Highlight of our stay in Amsterdam for 36 hours.

We were in Amsterdam for 9 days and took a day trip to Volendam by bus (very easy and about a 20 min ride). The 3D experience which told about the 1916 flood was amazing. I highly recommend it. The tour was also wonderful and informative.

Using public transit out of central we started in Zaanse Schans, then to Volendam/Marken, and ended in Edam before heading back to Amsterdam. (€10) The bus stop in Volemdam is a few blocks away from the water front which made for a pleasant walk through the quiet residential area. The water front is filled with interesting shops, bars/cafes, and museums. The buildings are quaint Dutch architecture and the marina is filled with fish boats, sail boats and a variety of power boats. The street was bustling with people and was highly entertaining. There are lovely spots to walk and have a drink to take it all in. There is a quiet beach at the end of town as well. A very enjoyable day experience. Well worth going, the bus trip through the country side us very enjoyable.

My friend and I took the whole Zaanse Schans - Volendam trip, with one ticket only, and we were glad to have done it. Volendam is a bit touristic, but worry not, it's still nice. There are many restaurants and pubs, many souvenir places (btw here souvenirs are very cheap), a lot of sea food, and a great deal of ships too. There is also a cheese museum worth a visit, I bought some gouda from there :)
We basically circled around the small town, went on the beach a bit, then came back and ended up very near to taking the bus back to Amsterdam. We walked a lot, but enjoyed every minute of it. :)

Is there a bus to and from Volendam to Zaanse Schans as we are going to Volendam in December for 3 nights after we went on a day trip from Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans,Volendam and Marken and fell in love with these places?

Yes, there is a bus, you can check the information if you google: oldhollandtour
This is the tour my friend and I took, for EUR 12.50, and travelled on the route described there.
Hope this helps! Have a nice stay!

Is everything closed on Christmas Eve in Voledam? Will we be able to have lunch there? Thank you...

Does anyone know if the shops in this city are open on Sunday in the month of April? I don't want to plan to spend the day here on Sunday if the shops are not open. Thanks!
