We tried to go into Sassenport for a tour but it has very restrictive opening times. Only open two days a week. Then you cannot park around it if you have a north american credit card - the machines won't accept it. Nice to look...More

This building is beautiful, a true landmark, with a type of architecture that is hardly preserved elsewhere in the Netherlands. I came here around 16.00 on a Saturday afternoon, would have loved to visit but they didn't allow cards (I'm Dutch and not even Dutch...More

The 'Sassenpoort' was part of the defense system of the city of Zwolle. The towering spires on top are pointy and the middle one has the clock face in it. Worth your view!

Very, very little is changed inside. High ceilings, old windowsills, a circular staircase, old stained glass windows. To me it's very precious and sturdy at the same time. It brings you back in ages past. It is the only gate that's is left of the...More

In Zwolle, the old architecture of cities is very visible, so if you're here to see that, definitely check out this and other gates, and the canals around the inner city for the full experience of the old city structure. You can easily walk along...More

We were by the Sassenpoort earlier in the week, but it wasn't open. Just the building alone from the outside is incredible. It is one of the old city gates from the medieval ages. Inside, you walk up a circular stair way to the first...More

Sassenpoort, situated at the corner of Sassenstraat and Wilhelminasingel, is one of the remaining defense wall. It is possible to go inside but you have to know first the schedule. Really nice history :) Aside from this, Zwolle has a beautiful medieval centre, with lots...More

Driving in and around Zwolle can be a challange. Many pedestrian areas and one way roads. There is plenty of parking but most of it is payed. I can't remember there being a parking garage. There is not a lot really near the... More
