It's a gate but a very beautiful gat, you pass and go into the city centers shopping area, Muurhuizen and other directions. The gate is certainly a showoff for the power of medieval Amersfoort. This was a town to take serious, no doubt.

It's a town gate obviously. Just stand in front of it, make a selfie and then watch how people walk through it on their daily business.

The city gates are astounding-- so old, and yet so beautifully maintained. Each gate is somewhat different.....so make sure you walk around (....less than an hour of comfortable strolling.....a bit longer if you can't help but stop and take photos at all the quaint houses,...More

Nice entrance to the oldest part of the town. It's almost always busy there and there are tons of bikes parked next to the gates. Next to it you find very popular fries place and a statue of a city herald.

I live really close to one of the gates but it never gets old. Amersfoort is a very charming city and the old walls and gates just make it extra special.
