Overview
More
Museum Paul Tetar van Elven was once the home of the academic painter and art collector Paul Tetar van Elven (1823-1896). Nowadays every aspect of the interior reminds you of his presence. While walking through the living rooms, the study and the library, it is not difficult to imagine that you are visiting the house of an artist. You will encounter historical paintings, portraits and copies after Old Masters like Rembrandt and Rafael, that Paul Tetar painted himself. You can even admire The Nightwatch! The house is filled with antique furniture, Oriental porcelain and Delft pottery.

This 17th century house features a huge collection of porcelain (Delft, Chinese, Japanese) belonging to the 19th century painter Tetar van Elven, along with the many copies he made of masterpieces for sale to the public. A charming way to spend an hour or so...More

The museum is in a large original 16th century house that was acquired relatively cheap by Tetar from a bankrupt estate in the 19th century. The building has large rooms which hold the original 19th century furniture and decorations. The museum also holds a good...More

The photo shown above is NOT the entrance. The museum is the former residence of the painter. Some parts of replicas can be found which was common back in those days. The tours are guided (free) by women who can tell you a lot!

This is a quite unique and cozy museum. It was interesting to see Van Elvin's reproductions of several paintings from famous italian and dutch painters and his pottery collection is also very pretty and diversified. It was really nice to be given a tour by...More

It's a small museum but it's free with museumkaart or a small fee and is interesting to see. The artist who lived here made lots of copies of famous paintings, which was interesting to see after viewing the originals elsewhere (e.g. Maurithaus) as well as...More

Worth popping into if, like us, you are on your way going through Delft to the port area to try to see where Vermeer took his inspiration for his 'view of Delft'. The staff are lovely and very knowledgeable about this amateur painter who decided...More
