Lovely little museum. They will NOT let you take cheese in the museum. It is obviously a common problem... Nicely laid out displays, interesting place. Stairs are very steep - and anyone with vertigo and/or without full mobility might struggle.

This is a nice museum in the middle of Leiden. We were able to climb and enjoy all the levels in the windmill without the crowds associated with other windmill museums. Due to road construction in the area it was a little difficult to get...More

I visited this museum several times already: as it happens when friends and family visit us for the first time is a place where we bring them; they all have appreciated it so far. I consider the windmill well mantained, information well reported and content...More

I wanted to check this out before leaving Leiden and I'm glad I did. Entry was cheap, it was quiet and the lady on reception was very friendly and offered to look after my bags. As you climb higher up the museum, you learn more...More

This was a spontaneous side trip while visiting The Haag. The owners/staff were friendly and the tour was interesting. We were able to see them stop the windmill for the evening which was very interesting. It does involve narrow steps and ladders but is manageable...More

Just had to pay a visit to a windmill in Holland. Lovely ladies at the reception desk. Very steep stairs but we make it and were rewarded with a view over Leiden.

Fascinating and well presented windmill. Steep staircases so be prepared to climb up and down. Loads of information and an excellent view from the platform of Leiden as well as a close look at the sails as they whizz by.

Absolutely stunned to see this historic and old windmill. I never knew windmills are so huge on the inside too! The ground floor has the small house in which the miller lived, with all things intact. The upper floor have various tools on display, while...More

We found this listed in a tour book and it sounded just quirky enough to try out when we switched buses in town. It turned out to be a destination - the museum itself is really interesting and easily takes an hour or more to...More

To the Windmill Staff? One day I would love to see it in person since I am a De Valk. And my family owned it before they left for USA in the late 1800's from there. I heard it was made for textile industry they owned? Can you tell me anything else about it? My name is Erin Patricia De Valk(maiden) Eustaquio, daughter of Wesley J. De Valk

The windmill De Valk has always been for grinding flower. The current brick windmill is the third one built in the 1700. the previous windmills in the same location were made of wood. In the 1700 because of the higher... More
