Museum that has an internal and an external part. Suitable for children. I can not say the cost as I have a museum card and exactly on the day of the visit my sister, brother-in-law and niece didn't pay anything as it was museum week (possibility of visiting museums with other people's cards).

The Professor Splash bit appeared to have closed down, leaving not much for younger kids. We sat through the video for the offshore experience, which left us kind of baffled as it looked like some sort of escape room experience and there was little clear indication where to go. We were then told it was for 8 years and over. Looking at the website it may have been okay for our younger child.

The main redeeming feature is the cafe, which was fantastic.

We focused on the immersive Offshore Experience installation, which was very cool. Designed to be interactive, it gives you an idea of the challenges of working to harness the energy found out to sea/below the sea. A good museum for kids to explore. We’re sorry we didn’t have time for ice cream.

We liked the museum but it seems like it needs updating. I think for such a museum in Rotterdam which is so famous for its shipping industry it could have been more spectacular. Overall though it was a nice visit.

This museum is sterile and nowhere you feel loving care. There is no story. What stood out was that this museum had also jumped on the virtue-signalling bandwagon. Coincidentally, we encountered a museum worker in the elevator, on his way to the upper floor, where, I assume, the museum store room is situated. He confided in me, that the best exhibits were stored there. Rotterdam, as the largest harbour in Europe and with a overwhelming maritime history deserves a better museum where you can feel the history of Rotterdam, built around its harbour.

Disappointing that introductory film does not operate, having paid so much for a ticket
. Not impresses.

A reluctant 3 star, outdoor exhibits looked great, a fine collection of boats, a credit to their restoration team, but only able to enter one boat on the day of our visit. Unfortunately the indoor space didn’t float our boat as much, was really expecting a museum rammed with models, historical items, engines, engineering, history etc. There isn’t a load to see, and as a non Dutch language speaker even although we could access English language narration on an iPhone app, it was difficult to tie up with the exhibits.
The Oil Rig mockup was really well done, and has something for all ages, but don’t expect to get on some of the more hands on interactive exhibits if your sharing the tour with a party of young children… no chance of that, unless you want to look like Pinocchio’s “Child Catcher”!
Buy your tickets at the desk, we tried to book tickets through the app - nightmare scenario.

Really enjoyable and educational. It’s not solely for children. It is for all. The lady behind the desk was so pleasant and we went on the boat trip where the guide was knowledgeable and had a very good sense of humour. There’s an oil rig simulator where you complete tasks and the floors going up are educational. The top floor where the children can play was great as children honestly used loading a barge as play and took it seriously. Worth a visit for sure

Great place to take your young kids.
There is a play area at the top floor, which suits kids from 2 to 10. We ended up spending 4 hours with a lunch break roughly half way, absolutely recommendable.

Surprisingly educational visit about the history of Rotterdam, and not only its maritime part. Also entertaining for young children. If you have time, you can easily spend a whole day there without dying of boredom. A bit pricey given that the content is not that costly to assemble or maintain, but I won’t complain.
