When in The Hague this is a must see. Do watch the video presentation on the restoration before going through to view. Go and see it’s hard to describe what you will see without spoiling the experience other than to say the day we were...More
This is a small museum but with a fine collection of the The Hague school of painters. Somehow a bit somber but appallingly beautiful and superb techniques applied. Piece de resistance is the Panorama By Mesdag & Co. a 360 degree round painting of Scheveningen...More
Everything I write about this 'biggest painting in the world' is a spoiler. So if you believe me when I tell you it's a 'must see', don't read any further...

Creating panaroma's was very hot in the nineteenth century and the Mesdag panorama is a striking example. One can see the beach area as it was 150 years ago. A kind of Google earth streetview avant la lettre.
It's a great picture to be honest, and well showcased, but it is the sole purpose of the museum so I thought this was over-priced for what it is, there are better places in Den Haag to visit if you are short of time.
We have similar panorama painting at home in Hungary (Feszty-körkép, recommended for every tourist, too), so that kind of painting is not a novum for me, but it's bigger and the perspectives connect the visitors with this piece of work maybe even more directly.
An impressive panoramic painting, 114 meters wide and 14 meters high.
The viewer feels an inseparable part of the picturesque scenery that overlooks the city of Den Haag and its coast, as it was painted in the 19th century by Mesdag, his wife and some...More
This has to be one of the top 3 places I have visited in Europe. Absolutely unbelievable that this masterpiece of art was created so long ago. Looking at it certainly takes you "back in time".
A MUST VISIT when in Den Hague and worth...More
We discovered this attraction while doing a walking tour of The Hague and really went in just to escape the rain! This turned out to be a great decision as the Panorama was one of the most interesting things we did in the city.
