Het Plein is Den Haag's major city square. With plenty of impressive historic buildings nearby, it should be a remarkable place. Unfortunately it is currently under renovation and does not offer anything of interest for tourists. There are a couple bars and restaurants, though.

The Square, Het Plein, is the just right spot in the center of The Hague. It is a meeting place, trendy, historical, political, cozy, busy, delicious, coolest view, in short it is just party time! Yes, it is also "see or be seen". Can even be conceited and somewhat ingenious, though that is the fun here. Just sit down and enjoy the show. And in the meantime have a wonderful time enjoying a cup of coffee, a savory or sweet snack, a lunch, and of course a look at! And know just around the corner are the historical buildings, department stores, boutiques and all young and old need to visit.

Most stunning is the contrast between the historical, quaint buildings located on the Plein and the modern skyscrapers towering behind. The square is lined with restaurants and bars, and is one of the most busy squares in Haag. In the middle of the square you'll see a towering statue of William of Orange (the Silent), made by the Dutch sculptor Lodewyk Royer. It was erected in 1848.
Het Plein was originally a garden for the Binnenhof castle where they did grow vegetables for the court. It was constructed as a town square, Het Plein, in 1632.

Found this area by chance and went back on a couple of other occasions mainly due to the wide range of bars and restaurants. If you are ever in The Hague it is worth a visit.

There are shops everywhere. You can find everything. Restaurants are plentiful. But, know that everything is in a circle in the city centre so notice some landmarks when you enter! If you get lost, and that is very easy, just enjoy the scenery!
Not many shop owners are locals so many aren't able to give you directions.

There’s plenty to see whether by foot or by bike. It’s a case of perhaps knowing the buildings but equally there’s some interesting talking points.

I recommend to take the self guided walk thru the Centre of The Hague, booklet available at the VVV (Tourist Office). It is thanks to this booklet that we found THE PLAIN, and its vibrant life

The centre of the Plein is dominated by a statue of William the First, aka “the Silent”. Two sides feature a number of restaurants and cafés, with tents that make it possible to sit (or stand) outside. One side features a famous private club, Societeit de Witte, as well as the annex to the Mauritshuis. The fourth and least interesting side adjoins a government building. From the early morning until late at night the Plein is a place of conviviality. Visit it if you have time.

On the Saturday we visited there was a craft and food market on with a DJ spinning tunes in the corner. Great food and quality gifts available. Worth a visit on your walk through this lovely city.
