Beautiful face

We wanted to visit this church, because you can see a piece of the stomach of Margarethe from Austria, but unfortunately this church is closed for renovation.

Very short visit, most interesting though!

The church closed at 5 pm, we got there at 4:55. A gentleman greeted us and gave us a quick tour and interesting facts nevertheless. Very nice and friendly. Very beautiful church. Would love to go back earlier next time.

An ornate and attractive church.
Jun. 2018 • Couples
As you can see from the photos on the TA review site, the interior of this large church is very ornate. The bulk of the decor is white stone and marble, which is no doubt why the incredible wooden pulpit stood out.

The pulpit here reminded me of the one I saw in the cathedral in Tournai, so perhaps Belgian churches specialise in huge, incredibly ornate pulpits with vast, carved anat-voix.

A very beautiful and bright church
Oct. 2017 • Solo
I only had time to visit the cathedral and another church in Mechelen, but this was by far my favourite. It is a very bright and elegant church, with a nice altar as well as organstand at the other side. It was recently renovated, and they did a great job! Well worth the short walk form the Grote Markt. Only open in the afternoon.

A beautiful baroque church
Jul. 2017 • Couples
What a beautiful church! Recently, the city and Flemish Government invested in restoring 8 churches in Mechelen. This one you must see!

Margaretha here?
Jan. 2017 • Solo
I just had a quick look around this 17th century church. It looked pretty ordinary, compared to other churches. An impressive main altar, nice organ. The paintings looked quite interesting, but I saw no descriptions and there was quite a lot of tape on them. At home I read that remains of Margaretha of Austria were kept here. If I had known that and seen signs of that, I would probably have rated the place higher, since this is the kind of stuff that makes a place stand out. So I would recommend adding a few clear signs and descriptions.

One of the first barok churches in the country
Sep. 2016 • Solo
Mechelen is proud of its historical churches. They are or gothic or Barok. One of the first churches in barok in our country was originally a Jesuit church. Later it became a parish church of St.Peter and St. Paul. Th interior has just been restored and shows the church in its original white splendour. IVery impressive are the 14 richly decorates confessionals masterpieces of Mechelens famous barok sculpture school. Note that 6 of the 7 historical churches can be visited free of charge everyday except wednesdays from 13 to 17 hrs in summer and 13 to 16 hrs in winter.. He 7th historical church is the impressive St. Romboutscathedral open every day from morning till 16.30 hrs ( winter) or 17.30 hrs (summer) Don't mis our churches and if you're not afraid from 538 steps. Climb them in the St.Romboutstower, admire the two carillons inside and the 360° view on top.

Hidden Gem!
May 2016 • Friends
Walked into the place by chance - no good view from outside but inside is fantastic! Even after "not another church" syndrome that one gets in Europe:) Wonderful works of art and interior inside and must see Calvary in inside garden!
