Toone, which this year celebrates its 50th birthday, is closely connected to Brussels' history: originally located in the Marolles quarter, today it is at a stone's throw from the Grand Place. You can really breathe the old fashioned atmosphere while sipping many local beers like Tripel Karmeliet or Duvel. The waiters are very kind and the owner let us organise... More

Near the Grand Place, hidden away in a small alleyway. The bar has a good selection of Belgian beers. This venue is in fact a Marionette Theater. Visits on demand

This was my third visit to the Toone in the last 5 years and it's still brilliant. The performance is superb, I speak very little French, but I still caught most of what was going on and really enjoyed watching it. The bar downstairs is good as usual too, and the little museum you get to go to and have... More

Great little hideaway bar with nice atmosphere and plenty of beer choices. Had the pleasure of meeting the resident cat. Staff are pleasant and the place has an easy vibe.

This is one of the Brussels cultural institutions : the puppets perform old classic often in Bruxellois dialect. Mr Toone started it and Toone son continues in the tradition. The pub offers local beer and cold lunch fare: flat bread and cheese and the like. It is very near the Grand place and definitely worth a visit.

Really great old pub hidden in the heart of Brussels just around the corner from Grand Place and the Royal Gallerie. There's a friendly atmosphere and old pub charm. It has a large range of beers both in bottles and on tap, good service too. They do puppet shows but you'd have to check when they run in advance.

It's a little hard to find the actual theater. You have to walk through the café, including the open-air courtyard, to the entrance in the back. It was a pretty bare-bones theater, as befits a puppet show. The walls of the theater were hung with marionettes from previous (and for future) performances. The show this night was Romeo and Juliet.... More

A step away from the Grand Place and the Royal Gallerie Saint Hubert, this is a little hidden gem in the very heart of the city. It is easy to miss so keep your eyes open for the colorful frescos that can me seen from the street. The place is very nicely decorated, in fact it is a functioning puppet... More

We got a tip about this pub and decided to check it out. It has a theme based on marionettes. Lots of beers on tap and in bottles. Old wood and felt like it was 500 years old (probably rebuilt after WW2). Would highly recommend this place for a Belgian beer or 2.

Whilst we didn't see a show at the Toone the attached bar is a very quiet and quirky place to escape the hustle and bustle, a wide selection of beers and a very friendly cat. We went a couple of times over the weekend to have a rest and sample a few different beers, definitely worth a visit.
