- cjvalMyrtle Beach, South Carolina234 contributionsLovely place! This place was lovely. There was a lot to see and the restaurant buffet was really good. I wish our travel agent had told us about all the stairs. My knees were toast for the rest of our visit. Great place to see though if you can handle the stairs and climbing up and down steep terrain. The hummingbirds, and butterfly garden were really spectacular. They also had some caged monkeys and some great exhibits of insects and frogs. Great for families.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 28, 2023
- Debra N2 contributionsSo relaxing and beautiful! This is such a beautiful place that is well maintained and very friendly staff. We will definitely bring family and friends back here. A special thanks to the gentlemen that let us get close to the Toucan named Tequila, he took our picture with him. Sorry I did not get his name. The trek down is not easy but well worth it. I have no complaints on the property, they are doing things right. Can’t wait to come back.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 16, 2023
- Bchen88Huntington Beach, California76 contributionsGreat little place to get a glimpse. Grounds are really nice and waterfalls beautiful. While this is a refuge for the animals and not in the wild, it really is very nice to see. I enjoyed the butterfly, hummingbirds and Toucans. Aside from all of this, the short walk to the Waterfalls was equally beautiful. For those who want a good cross section of Costa Rica in a a few hours, paved walkways and to see some of the local wildlife, this is a great place to be. It will not disappoint. If you combine this with some hiking at Poas (if the weather permits), it makes for a great trip. There are quite a bit of steps, but it is all downhill... they have a shuttle to bring you back up, so it is pretty darn easy for the location. The drive to the Gardens is a lot of up/down and windy, so for those who don't like mountainous driving, this is not for you!!Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten November 26, 2023
- Kathe POakdale, California60 contributionsA wonderful day trip!A great way to spend the day. It is a beautiful drive from San Jose to the gardens. The whole trail in the gardens is quite a walk, but well worth it! Near the entrance are walk-through enclosures with birds, butterflies, snakes, and toads. They have a whole section with many different felines for a close up look. All the animals are rescues, so you feel good supporting them. Then, take the hike down the valley past several waterfalls, one of which you can stand right next to and touch!Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 3, 2023
- MiddleEastOilmanBreaux Bridge, Louisiana8 contributionsLaz Paz Falls is a Great Day Trip from San JoseThis is an easy day trip from San Jose and well worth the trip. The park is huge and very well done. The facilities are superbly laid out and well appointed. The animal sanctuary was great and the animals appear well cared for. The toucan exhibit was a lot of fun and you can get up close and personal with them. It, along with the hummingbirds, was our favorite part. The butterfly exhibit was packed with the blue morphos and is a photographer’s dream. The falls themselves are beautiful and the path is not too strenuous. They use a bus to shuttle you back to reception which is a fabulous perk. The information says allow two hours but we were there three hours and could have stayed longer. Don’t cut yourself short on time. But do go and see it!Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 4, 2023
- JulesMi53 contributionsAmazing experienceLa Paz is beautiful, clean, and well worth the money for the experience. Waterfalls and animal exhibits are awesome. Customer service is excellent- one of our kids couldn’t make it and they immediately refunded the ticket. This is a must ‘do’ in Costa Rica.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 29, 2023
- John R2 contributionsAlmost perfectVisited with my then Fiancé and mother in late December 2023. Had seen the reviews about the steps and the walk back up the hill. Amazes me that anyone thought that 5 successive waterfalls along the same river could be on flat ground. But there we are. It's also incredible that some reviewers managed to miss the bus station and giant shuttle bus that takes you all the way back to reception at the end of the falls. There really isn't that many stairs to climb. But there are a lot downhill. Obviously. The surroundings are incredible. The place is worth going to even without the animals. All animals look well fed and healthy. The toucan enclosure was a highlight. To see them so close up was amazing. The big cat enclosures could be bigger. And considering the size of the grounds, there's more than enough space to expand them. I would have given 5 stars had I not seen the bulls, strapped to a cart, standing like statues, being forced to pose for pictures by a trainer. When their heads inevitably droop the trainer grabs their horns and shoves their heads up for the next picture. Completely unnecessary. Not taking a picture with them takes nothing away from the day out. Other than that, what a wonderful place. Would definitely recommend on your visit to Costa Rica or as a local.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 31, 2023
- Inspiration477288 contributionsAH-MA-ZING!Amazing place, relaxed walk, pave walkways with railings. I have had many leg surgeries so was glad I could walk it. It was a challenge for me, especially all the descending steps to the waterfalls. I took my time, didn't try to rush. My legs were noodles when finished. Appreciated the shuttle to drive up back to the top! Can opt for not going down to the waterfalls and get to see everything else. I am 65Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten January 14, 2024
- MSPPortland, Oregon7 contributionsA must-do day trip from San Jose! This is a very special place. It was magical. So clean and thoughtfully curated. This is a must do day trip from San Jose. Lunch was fantastic. Vegan friendly. Great staff. I didn't want to leave! We will definitely be back to stay there overnight sometime.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 16, 2024
- Daniel D5 contributionsA must see and do!This is a must! Not much I can add to the previous positive reviews. It is really worth it - sure is a little expensive, but just about everything is in CR! Go early and beat the crowds. We arrived just before 9 am. One car in the parking lot. We left 2 hours later, lot was full of cars and buses.Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten January 20, 2024

$50 Is a rip off for this park.
If you wish to see water falls..
save it for La Fortuna
Where you can get to swim under the fall.
One very upsetting thing is there is a mini zoo which.
The Jaguar enclosure is small concrete construction with glass it's very sterile.
Monkeys looked sad and confided.
Zoo maybe for some but in this day and age the park needs to do a lot more.
To me the main focus seem to be on the restuant. Which made it look like a holiday resort.
They should split the park in to two charge for the falls separately.
If you go with a party or friends and you have ethics and morally care about wildlife wait in car park.

We stayed in Atenas over the Christmas break and drove to La Paz waterfalls for a day trip. The seniors, teens, adults and infant had a great time on this excursion. The entrance was quite pricey, but it was nice to see the grounds very well maintained. Helped make up for the hit to our pocket books. Especially since you can catch waterfalls for free off of dirt roads. The lunch was quite affordable ($15US) and had quite a lot of choices to please our large group. Despite the hefty price, I would recommend stopping in here for a day. The waterfall hike is quite doable and easy for all ages and physical level.

Despite being a lovely place by nature, the crisis of Covid 19 have forced the owners to reduce to 30% the work force. And so that was the explanation.
So the place is now very neglected, almost abandoned in its totality and with smelly cages and dirty walkways. The restaurant before the typical house is full of garbage and the toilets are worst than nightmares.
Instead to reduce the price of the entry, the directives keep it at almost 50 US dollars.
Really and honestly unacceptable.
Sad, because the center have a great potential

The place is amazing. I have traveled a lot and visit a couple of impressive gardens in europe and the Americas, but this something else. You pay $60 and you will have access to miles of gardens, ponds, a zoo, trails, and 5 beautiful waterfalls. Lunch is included and it's pretty decent. Get ready to walk a lot or you can just stay relaxed by one of the magical corners in the huge garden.

It's a very nice place, beautiful grounds and interesting animals. The waterfalls are also very nice. However the best waterfall (la Paz) you can actually see for free on the side of the road just past La Paz waterfall gardens.
Only giving three stars because at $48pp it's not particularly good value for money. We were done in 90mins

After a slightly disappointing visit to the Poas Volcano, we drove a short distance to visit La Paz. Gorgeous! It's a bit pricey but you can spend the day viewing the butterflies, monkeys, big cats, and reptiles, too.
Friends raved about the buffet lunch but I was not overly impressed with the quality of the food. It was okay and you can eat as much as you want.
My advice is to see ALL of the waterfalls and take all the steps and trails you can. The walk down to the shuttle might be intimidating for folks who are fearful of heights but it's so much fun!!

I was not sure what to expect here, but it was SO lovely!
So many beautiful plants surround this park, the animal sanctuary was so so nice! I have been to multiple national parks around the country, so it was nice to see new animals and be able to see them so closely!
The waterfall is nice, but if you’ve visited some other waterfalls around the country (Nuayaca, Uvita, Tenorio), this one may not really be that interesting. But the trails were a really lovely addition.
They do offer a buffet, I did not purchase this, I decided to go to a local restaurant that had more than enough food for more than half the price of the buffet.
If you went to Poas Volcano first, just note that it is much warmer at La Paz!

What can I say about this amazing place. As soon as you walk in , your taken back by beautiful sounds of birds and lush greenery of plants. I went on a tour stop it was a little fast, but I got to see some amazing things. Sloths, toucans pumas and humming birds to say the least. Its definitely a place where you want to to take your time and linger. Even after all the amazing animals and sights you see, make sure to make time to see the amazing waterfalls. Prepare your legs it's a hike. So worth it !!

Great layout so you only double back on yourself once at the end. The zoo bits are just OK. The first three falls are spectacular. The park suggests you'll need 2.5 hours but i think an hour to an hour and a half is plenty. The online price was $48 per person. We paid $16 at the place

It was apparent how deeply affected these caged animals are. This is hardly a “sanctuary”. These animals have been taken from the wild and put on display for tourists entertainment. I can’t fathom how people can be entertained by suffering. It deeply saddens me.

Throughout the park are there benches to rest on or can scooter/elec wheelchair be rented?
Written January 22, 2023
There are benches and seating around the park.
I didn’t explicitly see wheelchairs/scooters. The waterfall wouldn’t be accessible for those on wheels, but I think most of the rest of the park is.

Is it possible to get to the la paz waterfall by bus? Or close?
Written December 27, 2019
Good question. There are supposedly buses that leave from Santa Barbera, near Alaquela, fairly early & that come back in the late afternoon. However, it's very difficult to get real information about the schedule ???. The best thing seems to be to have a rental car OR to try to take the bus but be prepared to hitch hike in case no bus arrives! People are friendly & helpful for the most part, so the chances that things will work out are pretty high!

Is ut safe to park in their parking lot with suitcases inside? We are driving from Sjo to La Fortuna. This garden is the midpoint between the two cities. However, I don't want to stop if my car window would be smashed. Don't want my trip to get ruined on Day 1. Please advise. TIA.
Written September 14, 2019
Yes, although suitcases are always at risk if you leave them in a car, La Paz has a private lot and a parking attendant that was there the whole time we were. We did the same thing, stopping here from San Jose to La Fortuna. We always carry a piece of black fabric with us, and cover our luggage with it. When you look in the window, it makes it hard to see that their is anything in the car. We take this fabric with us on all trips. Just a cheap piece of black fabric from your local fabric store works great.
